fuel gauge in dash not working!

I have an '04 E55 w 66000 miles on it. Car is sitting in the garage for almost the whole winter. Start it about 2-3 times a week and drive it around the block when no snow on the road.

So yesterday I drove the car to get a gas. Fuel gauge still showing about 3 or 4 lines before i put some gas. Put about $10.00 worth of gas. Started the car. While driving i noticed the fuel gauge is all clear. No line showing at all! It basically shows that it's all empty but i know i had about 3-4 lines before even putting more gas.

Have you ever replaced the fuel pumps/filters/sender units under the back seats?

Check under your rear seat for the missing fuel.
Sorry I couldn't resist.
Somebody with some sense chime in and save me please.

Welcome to the fuel level sender issues. My last set of level senders lasted 6 months before they failed yet again. 6 senders in less than 3 years. These assemblies leak or fail on a routine basis.

Don't want to sound like a spokesperson for Techron, but it does exactly what Chevron claims and one of those claims it to keep fuel sending units in good condition. Any car that is stored can especially benefit from Techron.

it works now!!!

Dont know what i did. I was cruising in a highway, floored a bit to feel me some adrenaline rush. Next thing you know my fuel gauge is working, it has about 6 lines in it.
