Help. Front bumper extension
I'll try to keep this short.
I'm cruising down a 2 mile access road going home from church just minding my own business. When I notice a cts-v coming up on me. He pulls up, eye contact is made, I hear three beeps and we bury our pedals. I pull on him a little and it stays that way. At 142 mph I hear a thump, I let off the gas, and hear something knocking with a very even tempo. I put it neutral and shut her down. No smoke, no smell. When I stop and pop the hood and I go to the front of the car I look down and notice the plastic pan that used to be fastened under the bumper is hanging down. I am relieved to say the least as it sounded horrible as the wind forced it down so low that it was bouncing off the pavement. Now I'm just pissed that it can't be salvage and am sure the AMG tax will apply.
Anyone know the part number?

Thanks Mikey. However I looked up that part number on Parts.com and "no part found" came up.
Yuille36- it is the belly pan that is directly below the front bumper and meets the belly pan under the engine.
Does anyone else feel that these pan are not needed and help cool the engine better?

I get too scared of road debris etc so I keep mine on.
I have a question for anyone...have you ever heard of this happening???
On a stocker there has to be 6 or more bolts snugged up to hold it in place.
Just don't get how ALL of those bolts could let loose and it come down. Not doubting your story, just the last guy to tighten those bolts (or didn't)
Due to massive intercooler hoses etc all over my undercarriage front I can only get a few bolts in and still has never dropped down on me.
Just found that weird.

I don't feel that they aren't needed, as it keeps all the road grime from splattering up onto the engine. And also protects the engine if you were to hit debris from a truck tire, etc. I do agree that removing them would help mitigate heat, but mine are staying put.

The pan not only serve as a splash shield to protect the engine compartment, it also affects air flow underneath the car, contributing to a reduction to the coefficient of drag of the car. Mine will be staying in place; and I definitely agree with those that suggest there's no way it would pop down if all the attaching fasteners were correctly secured.

I know that my splash shields have naca ducting, to direct cool air up to the engine mounts.

Thanks Mikey for the part #.
I recently had a pulley, h/e, I/C pump, headers and a tune installed. It looked to me that bolts may have been loose and at that speed the it caught the wind and ripped the plastic off the pan. The rear bolts were still attached and tight.
I will be replacing the pan. Thanks for all feedback guys!,,,
