Royal Purple Ice Coolant Additive
Peeps,
As the heat is coming here in Phoenix soon, I figured it woud be wise to do everything I can to keep my car cool in traffic as I drive extensively to and from work daily. (100 miles round trip everyday.)
I've already upgraded my heat exchanger and intercooler pump, put in brand new coolant and also just added the Royal Purple coolant additive under one of those, "Eh..can't hurt."
It's a small bottle and costs $16.50 and it seems to be keeping my car just a bit cooler via the normal dash meter but this could just be wishful thinking on my part.
So question to those of you that have used this as Royal Purple is a solid brand (IMHO), is this wasted money or worth it?
Thanks as always.
Alex

I've been thinking about introducing this to my s/c circuit but not sure how it plays out with the internals of the inter-cooler under the s/c/.

Yeah, I've been considering moving over to a 50/50 mix of distilled watter and Water Wetter.
Should be a nice improvement if you live in an area that doesn't have hard freezes.

I've used water wetter and the royal purple and they seem to do the same. But you can always just put 1 drop of liquid dish soap in as well...all these just break the surface tention of water and allow better heat transfer. The main advantage is you can run less or no coolant as they both have lubricants for the seals, etc..just depends on your climate as both are not antifreeze. Antifreeze is not the greatest for heat transfer, I just changed mine and did a full bottle of water wetter, maybe a half quart at most of coolant and the rest water. Can't say I noticed a huge difference in the E55, but my RV temps dropped 15-20 degress!

I was at the auto parts store this past weekend and there was a bottle of water wetter, some other temp reducing additive and royal purple. I picked up WW to read the back of the bottle and then I picked up the bottle of RP and the 1st thing I noticed was that the bottle of RP was noticeably cooler than WW and the other additive for that matter. They had 4 bottles of RP and each one I picked up felted the same as the 1st. Next time you are at a auto parts store check it out.

What about corrosion?
I didn't see anybody address that in this thread...
If you go to water/RP Ice mix w/o antifreeze, does the RP have any corrosion inhibitor properties?
I wouldn't run without corrosion protection for sure...

MB brand coolant is required to preserve the plastics, metals etc of the engine and cooling system. Kevin is correct.
