W212 E63 Exhaust Question but you guys are smart so I ask here :)

Since the engine is the same Im gonna pose this here. And I dont have to STFF cause... I dont.

I have a stock W212 E63 with just the OE Tune. I want to remove the secondary cats and replace with an X pipe, remove the resonators and replace with straight pipes, and keep the mufflers stock. I want to do this for more sound but dont want to lose power. If I lose TQ and/or HP to a level that I will notice, I wont do the mod. I know many of you have toyed with this type of setup or have actually done it and have empirical data and real world long term experiences- thus I ask here. The W212 forum just doesnt have enough information.

Questions:

1. Will I gain hp- will it be down low, thru the curve, or just up top?
2. Will I lose hp- will it be down low, thru the curve, or just up top?
3. Will I gain TQ- will it be down low, thru the curve, or just up top?
4. Will I lose TQ- will it be down low, thru the curve, or just up top?
5. Will the tune hurt me or will it adapt or will it be a wash?
6. Please give me any other input that would be beneficial.

Thanks MBWorld Gurus.

from my experience with my buddies 63, he has a w211 e63 (same motor I believe)...slight drop in low end torque, slight increase in hp up top. this was just an evaluation of driving his car, no dyno data for evidence but the gains/losses are barely noticeable, however, the sound....OHHHH the sound is like god's wrath. He enjoys it and likes the fact it isn't super loud but roars when you get on it. hope this helps.

This is what Im hoping for--- great improvement in sound and a negligible loss in tq/hp.

Thanks.

Here's my input:

I took off my secondary cats and my resonator, and basiclaly just put 2x 3" straight pipe stainless steel right through it.

It sounds impressive, unbelievable sound where everyone will take a look at your car. I also love it because I don't have any drone at all at any speed when you don't punch it.

I also really like that it only makes the noise when you do give it gas. and comes back to a normal "mercedes" quiet when your just cruising with a nice low bumble.

Thanks, did you notice/feel any TQ/HP loss down low??

Replacing the secondary cats with straight pipes will net you 5 to 7 horses. I'm not sure how much gain you'll get if replacing them with x-pipe but should be similar. Removing the resonator will actually hurt you a little bit. The drop in torque may be worth the extra sound depending on what you're looking for.

The most effective power combo for the 63 is long-tube headers + tune, which will usually result in +50 to +60 whp gain depending on the rest of the exhaust setup.
