Bent a Rim Tonight, Then Raced :{

I think some people really get bad luck on Friday the 13th. When I was driving out in Los Banos tonight. I was supposed to race a C6 Auto Vette with intake, long tubes, exhaust, and tune. I then hit a pothole on the way to the road that we were going to race at and thought that my steering wheel was shaking. There was a vibration throughout the whole car but it went away for awhile. So we then lined up at 40mph and he honked. The Vette pulled but as I reached 100mph, the steering wheel started to shake violently. By 140mph I was scared out of my mind. I did not know what to do so I gently applied the brakes which caused more vibration in the steering wheel as well as the brake pedal. I get out to find that my tire was shot and my inside rim was bent horribly. If the tire blew off the car, I think I would have died tonight on Friday the 13th. It was no way a win for the vette because my car had a bent rim racing to 140mph. I think having a bent rim really affected my acceleration wouldn't you think? But the guy in the Vette claimed the bent rim had nothing to do with the outcome of the race. I call BS! It's 4:30 in the morning and I just got home. Tow truck had to drive 130 miles so it was an experience. I'm glad I'm home tonight.

crazy

Conclusion.....Not smart.......and just to race a garden variety tuned vette?

Come-on man....

Think it through next time your car is not 100%........not worth your life, think about it........

Only track or race the car, if you must, when it is 100%.....that would be a good rule to follow..especially when it comes to tires and rims...and brakes and transmission and engines...etc....

Street racing - Dumb, but I get it. People do it. And in the perfect conditions, doesn't bother me too much.
Street racing to 140mph - Beyond stupid. Can't cure stupid.
Street racing to 140mph on a bent wheel and shot tire - Candidate for the Darwin Award. (Google it)

Really man? Really?

Good lord. The best news isn't that you didn't kill yourself, it's that you didn't kill the father, crossing the street with his 3 and 5 year old sons. You know, like me.

You had a vibration that was felt through the whole car after hitting a pot hole and you couldn't get out for 30 seconds to see what is was? It could have cost you your life.

Regardless, I agree that it wouldn't have made much of a difference in the race ( Unless he beat you by half a car or less ). The extra drag of the empty tire is a bad thing, but it's not a huge thing.

ya, darwin indeed.

You do realize the last car that flipped at the texas mile doing 150 was due to a blown tire at speed....

And thanks to You Tube we can now take at look at what a 140-150mph crash would look like.

You felt a vibration throughout the whole car after hitting a pothole, yet you did not stop and you kept going? You then felt the steering wheel shake violently when you reached 100mph in your race and yet you still kept going? What the hell is wrong with you?

seriously man I get the whole street racing thing, it's a rush. But knowing that you f-up something after hitting a pothole and still racing is just stupid on your part. And to top it off you kept racing even after your car started shaking violently for what, braggin rights against a midly modded base corvette? In all honesty, I really don't feel sorry for you and your troubles, I'm just glad you didn't kill yourself and more importantly kill an inoccent by stander.

Ya stupid on my part. The rim looked fine visually but when I turned the wheel after racing I found out that it was bent and all the air shot out. Next time we race he's going down! hahahaha

I bet!! I would've been scared sh**less.
I would really look into getting some tire pressure sensors to be on the safe side.

Sorry guys Ive been racing on the street since I was in high school and can't get enough of it. Its the whole rush of it, running from the cops and stuff like that. There just isn't a place where I can race on the track near the Bay Area so I have always resorted to street racing.

When you crash your car next to you race, dibs on the seats so we can make cooling seats that actually cool.

I drive extra careful on friday the 13th (at least try to). Last summer on fri the 13th my 500whp evo lost steering way over 100. Fixed that and later that night the car flipped over several times with me in it.
Dont F with Fri the 13th. And dont F with bad wheels at such high mph!
