Unhappy warped/damaged cylinder head and valves.

Yup, worse fear confirmed. Can anyone direct me to a used or new cylinder head? For drivers side only. I'd rather purchase a new one than spend money refinishing this head.

TIA

Same head on the bank with the cooked piston? Was it torqued in correct sequence?

How much off is it? Can it be resurfaced? Resurfacing a head is only $200 here in my neck of the woods. I'm guessing that's a far cry from the price of a new AMG head.

beat me to it. If it's not severely warped I would take it to a machine shop and have them resurface the head. much more cost effective approach than locating a new head.

x2

So I'm guessing that was the noise it was making? Can't see why a warped head would make that noise.

I'm getting good 150-160PSI in all cylinders except number 8 which has 0 compression meaning bent valve and other head related damage. I'm getting ALOT OF blow by pressure probably open intake valve. I'm pulling it out but shopping for a cheaper alternative. If not I'll purchase another head from a member that's here that already offered

Cyl 6 piston that was replaced in the winter.

Open valve will not give you excessive blow by ( can't see how it could )...broken piston or rings would though. I suggest you disassemble first before buying anything. I just don't see it being a warped head. The symptoms don't add up.

Blow-by through the manifolds = valves
Blow-by through the crankcase= piston

#8 inevitably runs lean unless you have modified the rail.

It makes sense because that noise that was coming sounded like is coming from cyl 8 area. That's where it was the loudest even with when I heard it with the screw driver to my ear. Cyl 8 has zero compression!!

Thanks for the input guys shardul I will let you know asap which one will be more wise investing in this head or a used one. I have the part numbers for the parts I need but need to verify pricing for:

valve intake:
1130530601 $8.25
x 8
= 72

Valve exhaust:
1130500227 $39.50
x 4
= 160

Valve seat intake:
1130530431 $6.50
x 8
= 56

Valve seat exhaust:
1130530432 $9.75
x 4
= 40

Valve seal:
6120500058 $14.00

Valve spring outter:
1550530120 $19.50
x 12
= 240

valve spring inner:
1550530020 $19.50
x 12
= 240

total: around $1000 in parts give or take
recondition of head: $300~400

total: $1400

Peter or anyone know a good shop around the GTA area please let me know. Just trying to get some quotes.

I don't know but could be when I was doing alot of WOT runs then I noticed a sudden jerk and car started misfiring and making noise since then. I just noticed cyl 8 spark plugs electrode tips were bent. I was told they "melted into that shape" then replaced the plugs and since then it was still misfiring. Cyl 8 has valve float I think with 0 compression. Pics to follow.

what can I do to try and avoid this happening besides not doing WOT runs? I just got my car a month ago and keep seeing threads with #8 going bad and want to do everything I can to minimize the chance of this happening. Good luck with the repair OP

since your car is stock you dont have to worry about this too much. depending on your mileage i would change the fuel filter assembly.
once you start modding i would recommend a TTM fuel rail and injectors.

Can I assume that *most* people who blew number 8 ( assuming the tune is good ) were doing high speed runs? I'm guessing that perhaps the high injector duty cycle coupled with perhaps a not-so-good flowing rail keeps it lean after an extended run?

also it has to have been a super cold day for timing not being pulled.

Im no expert, but, i had a car (Not AMG) who made that exact noice, with a melted/bent plug and almost zero compresion. That one had a cracked piston ring lands and a scored cylinder due to detonation.

I would def lift the head before i order or do anything.
