'07 E63...3 owners...24k miles...any way to check background of car?
I am helping a buddy come over to the 'dark side' and get an E63 instead of the Alpina B7 that he was looking at, and he found a 2007 E63 that only has 24k miles, but has had 3 owners. The sheer quantity of owners, and the relatively low price, have us both suspicious. We went the CarFax route, and found odd things. All of this was done when the car was only 4 months old with barely 8k miles:
Antenna serviced/repaired
Interior trim repaired
Front carpet replaced
Fluid levels checked
Engine/powertrain computer/module checked
Ignition switch replaced
Gearshift indicator adjusted
Seems like odd things to be replaced, and then the car was for sale 2 months later with only an additional 300 miles on it. I would be thinking flood or water damage, but there were no claims on CarFax.
Is there any way to tell from the VIN if the car was auctioned through Mercedes Benz Financial, and maybe get some additional background on the car and its history?
PM me if you want, as I will respect the anonymity of anyone that can help me. My buddy is looking to pull the trigger in the next day or two. He already bought a new flat front badge for whatever E63 he gets.
Thank you!

RE: E63
The listed services done may or may not be a big deal.
A lot of the 07's were leased new, then re-sold as CPO, and this car was probably sold again. These cars are not for everyone, maintenence, insurance, and most importantly expiring warranty may have been the reason for the last sale.
If the car looks nice and drives well, I'd take it to the local MB dealer for a pre-purchase inspection. Ask them what services need to be done, and ask them nicely to look at VMI and give you the service history. Be sure to get a warranty if the car checks out and he buys it.

The car is at an MB dealer several states away, so that is the main challenge to seeing it and getting a second opinion. Kind of have to buy blind.

You could always have your dealership run a VIN and provide you with the history of the car. Other thatn that what other way, woould you have of getting the information.

Tried that. *******s acted like I was asking for their Mom's personal credit info. Instead of helping, they had a sale guy call me and try to sell me a new car.

They have a few 2008 E63s currently in stock with about 35-37k miles I believe. Their pricing is pretty good too but you'll get virtually no budging on them trying to go lower.
