W211 E55 better cooling

I know a way to cool the down to about 50 degrees
it's a bit pricey but saves the headache of refilling the tank with ice and provides significantly better cooling. write to me if interested or email at supra335i@yahoo.com

Tbal, do I have to take care of the IC pump wiring to make it run all time or it wouldn't hurt if I leave it as it is? will still work? Tomorrow I may have the splitting.

Better to wire it to run all the time imo. Didn't log anything with pump not running all the time.

Someone revived an old thread, but since there are others looking to do this:

You can pick up a BMW reservoir on Ebay for around $20 ($30 w/ bracket)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/95-BMW-525I-...c612a4&vxp=mtr

You can get them with straight down outlets or angled. I'm using straight. The one in the link is nice as it has the required bracket. Most don't

BTW- It does not have to be BMW. The same (or similar) part is used on other makes. Just search Power Steering reservoir on ebay.

Note: There is not a lot of room top to bottom in the typical location, so dont go crazy. I have seen a lot of guys buy a billet res, only to find out it does fit. No names, but'

BRAMAGE - Dope
Denroll - Dope

Probabaly more...

Things needed:
-Bmw Power steering reservoir tank (ebay, $10-15 shipped)
- Bmw bracket to mount tank. Part # 32 41 1 094 917 (BMW dealership, about $10)
- 3/4" - 5/8" reducer + 2 clamps to fit (Used from the IC hose, to the 5/8" hose and to the BMW reservoir)
- 3/4" bypass cap (plug) + clamp to fit 3/4" (Used to plug the T on the radiator hose)
- 1/2" bypass cap (plug) + clamp to fit 1/2" (Used to plug extra outlet on the BMW reservoir)
- 2 feet 5/8" hose + clamp to fit
- misc nuts and bolts to mount BMW reservoir (check your tool box lol)

Attached are a few pix of the mount, tank, stock T, plugs and a small visual DIY by Nanayaw6 as well. *Note my location of the bracket was wrong, had to move the bracket to the left another inch. You need to use washer/ bolts to push the bracket lower so the reservoir will clear the hood!

Video is pretty much self explanatory, Yaw did a superb job describing it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTeghP20RkU

Dont forget to bleed the system! Any Q's, feel free to hit me, Nanayaw6 or 320 Dreamer up.

More info, pix, alternative method here Cutting those stock clamps off is SUPER hard, if you do want to cut them off, you can, and you just connect those 2 hoses with a 3/4" connector.
Awesome write man

I found a 2.5 gal front tank system with everything needed. I think it is around $350. Fits right by where the windshield res is.

Seems like they made a poorly designed IC system on these cars. At least it has one. My old SC GP didnt have one at all from the factory/.

I don't have any problems with my Fabtech engine bay reservoir. Looks, fits and functions as advertised.

How well does the small reservoir work vs. trunk mount? Fabbed up a huge exchanger for my E55, but debating how I want to approach splitting cooling system.

I would atleast do the 2.5 gal tank under the hood. I really like mine and its a lot easier to route VS a trunk mount. Personally I dont want 5 gallons of water in my trunk next to battery etc.

It depends on how you drive your car, but generally the more water the better (within reason). I have a very small (cobra reservoir) ~1 quart reservoir and it is an improvement over stock, especially in recovery time. I had planned on and wanted to get the engine bay tank (but had fitment issues) and feel this would be a good route for some, but I feel the best route for most is a 5 gallon tank in the trunk.

The stock intercooler uses the pressure relief provided by the radiator cap (21 psi).

Splitting the cooling and using a power steering reservoir changes that, to effectively have no pressure relief (since power steering is under so such high pressure).

Anyone know if the power steering reservoir can be fitted with a different cap? Maybe a threaded radiator cap might fit? If not, could drill a hole in the existing cap and add a pressure relief valve such as: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pressure-Rel...-/200959146935
