Need a little help on W211 E55 right rear strut replacement
hey guys
I have searched but haven't been able to find much specific to the E55 as it relates to this repair. I did find this for an E500 however I don't know what is different on an 2004 E55 compared to a 2004 E500.
I noticed a drip on the floor the last night which got me down this road.
I recevied quotes from two indy shops in town and they say it is a dealer only part so the strut alone is $590ish plus 2-hours labor. If the E500 DIY above is the same as the E55, I shouldn't have any issues doing it myself.
I guess I have two questions:
1. Is that E500 DIY a direct transfer to the E55?
2. Has anyone purchased this strut recently from anywhere other than a dealer? this link shows an auto leveling strut for an E500 for $380. However, when i input my 2004 E55 into the website it returns a shock that looks to be for a front non-airmatic system which I am not sure E55 was offered without airmatic.
Thanks for your help guys.

Thanks shardul!
I just got this car a few weeks ago and luckily had prepared myself for the enthusiast part of owning an E55 out of warranty. 68,000 miles on mine.
I thought the same thing shardul but it looks like Arnott sells a different front air spring for E55s than they do for other E class W211s. Maybe it isn't different but they charge $100 more for the E55 version. That is what got me thinking if the rears are different too. Would the E55 have different dampening and rebound than a E500?
Are the rear struts the same on an E500 as an E55 with airmatic?

I appreciate you guys helping a noob here. Has anybody had to do this repair lately on an E55?

Thanks for the reply grantwood!
I am still getting my mind around how airmatic works and front vs. rear. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't settling point more towards the spring than the shock?
My rear shock actually dripped oil on the floor which prompted me to take a look and figure out what is going on.
I figure I will do a diy when I do it so others can have a resource for symptoms, part number, tools and time needed. I feel the repair is easy I just need to get my hands on the righ parts....

Any news on this? My rear shocks are leaking and need replaced. The shocks are separate from the air spring . I looked up the shocks on parts.com and they show them for $201. A piece.

that sounds about right for the shock, the air bag is at least three times that amount

did anyone do a rear shock replacement yet? i couldnt find a DIY and just wanted to make sure there wasnt some complicated SDS process i needed to go thru after replacing the shocks...
Shocks i have no problem replacing as done it on many various cars, but if the SDS has to be used then i am SOL as i dont have it

ok thanks! i figured the e55 vs e500 shock valving wouldnt be that much different to make the suspension night and day in terms of handling ... i just want the car to stop bottoming out over speed bumps in the rear lol

are you sure those are the right ones? they have a few different ones listed at different prices that say "Shock absorber, e320, e500, e55, w/hydropneumatic" but the dont have a part number...
i used the "ask for help" buttton and sent an email to see if they can confirm the part number cuz $200 a piece would be a sweet deal!

yup, but at $380 each from autohauz still isnt too bad considering if you go to dealership i think its like $1200 with install ... so i will be ordering a set and doing it myself soon cuz bottoming out on every little bump is getting old real fast

interesting.....your part number on the quote is different than the part I got from AutohausAZ.
the part that I put in my car in August is: 2113262800
One number off.
I thought maybe left and right had different numbers but the part is the same on both sides.

that part number in my post above is from parts.com... autohaus tells me part # is pn# 2113260100 ..... i think the part # ending in the 800 is the AMG shock which i though we couldnt get and the part ending in 100 was the e500 shock that replaces the amg shock availibility in the USA ?
does anyone actually have the part number they used to actually replace the shocks? I am thinking then pn# 2113260100 is the correct one from what i have researched but then i keep seeing pn# 2113260700 and pn# 2113260800 referenced too
