Replace the AC Compressor? Anyone done it?

So I've been chasing an issue with my AC. It just stopped blowing cold air a few days ago. Went through the troubleshooting steps from a few other posts and ensured pressure was good on the low pressure side of the circuit, replace the heater bypass valve. All of which had 0 effect on the issue.
Today I connected SDS and run a full AC test and the end result of it is the compressor pulley is turning but the compressor is not engaged. I presume it's a bad compressor but just wanted to see if anyone had replaced their compressor.

I have found a DENSO compressor, they are the OEM supplier for MBZ for $325 but don't want to pull the trigger unless I'm certain this will fix my issue.

Any guidance or advice is appreciated.

It may just be the compressor clutch or compressor clutch relay. There should be a relay that switches the clutch in and out. If it is just the clutch, it would be cheaper and also may not require discharging the entire system if it is not too awkward to change. ... sometimes it's just easier to change out the whole thing. I would look there first. Not sure where the relay is on the E, I'd need to look it up.

Since I am in need of one and an OEM one is around $900, Grant did you go with the Denso and if so where did you source it from?

Thanks

Denso one can be sourced locally, it is used on a wide range of MB models.

I am not sure but if you call the dealer or check ebay you will be able to tell if the part numbers are the same.

Shardul, I am surprised you don't know this ... you know everything else LOL.

I doubt the S class fits. I usually cross check on car-part.com. They are usually very good about listing interchangeable models and years for cars. I looked up E55 only E class, CL500 and CLS interchange, according to the site. Not suggesting you buy used, just as reference for the question.
