Replace the AC Compressor? Anyone done it?

Today I connected SDS and run a full AC test and the end result of it is the compressor pulley is turning but the compressor is not engaged. I presume it's a bad compressor but just wanted to see if anyone had replaced their compressor.
I have found a DENSO compressor, they are the OEM supplier for MBZ for $325 but don't want to pull the trigger unless I'm certain this will fix my issue.
Any guidance or advice is appreciated.

Since I am in need of one and an OEM one is around $900, Grant did you go with the Denso and if so where did you source it from?
Thanks

I doubt the S class fits. I usually cross check on car-part.com. They are usually very good about listing interchangeable models and years for cars. I looked up E55 only E class, CL500 and CLS interchange, according to the site. Not suggesting you buy used, just as reference for the question.
