Is this a problem?? *pic*

Had my wheels off today to clean the calipers and the inside of the wheels. I had the right rear off and noticed this. I assume the tire rubbed on it at some point. Thoughts?

Not a huge problem, but it'll eventually cause premature wear of the shock due to dirt falling in there. Clean it up and put a piece of duct tape to cover it.

Thanks guys, is this a common thing on cars with airmatic? Can I source the cover separately or just duct tape it?

I don't think you can get a cover separately...but I've never seen that before unless you have aftermarket wheels that rub.

I have the stock AMG wheels. I bought the car used so there's no telling what kind of douchebaggery the previous owner pulled.

That'll buff out.

Check and see if your fenders are rolled, maybe the previous owner was running bigger wheels/tires. Btw the backs are rolled from factory.

Checked with the dealer today and they do not sell them separately. He did quote me the entire shock for $460 which didn't seem all that bad. This was www.mbzmedford.com a site sponsor, really helpful and friendly.

That's a pretty good price as my dealer wanted $750 each. I had a friend order mine and they were about $375 each.

Wait for them to go bad before replacing...no need to do it now and it won't leave you stranded when it does ( it'll just ride like crap ).

Just take a dremel tool, to shave off the debris, and use a a piece of plastic or duct tape to cover. Understand that duct tape isn't a premanent fix. It will eventually come off.

How/where did your friend find one for that price?

I do not see rear shocks offered on their site right now, only the front. Their price is $399 plus a $100 core which you get back. If I were to buy one I'd just go with the brand new one from the dealer for only $60 more.

They don't make rears. And yeah, for $60 more you might as well get a new one. The Arnotts are good but they are rebuilt so the mounts, etc., are all used parts.

I know that they have had issues with Range Rover Arnott replacements, but only a few MB owners here have had any issues with Arnott and needed to return them. But hey, for $60 just get the OEMs, imho.

Safe to say those guys are not big fans of Arnott!

Could be, my car did not come with a spare tire and the jack had been used, so they may have happened at some point.

That's what I was thinking too. If it was wear, it would be uniform and smooth.
