Traded 745i for E55
After 17 months of trying to like my BMW 745i (for which I traded my 540), I traded it yesterday for an 2003 E55. Boy, what an upgrade! Sure, I will not have the iDrive that made tuning the radio a multi-step chore, or the fun of seeing in what language the controls would contain (thanks to an erratic computer), or the massaging seats BUT now I again have a car that is fun to drive!

734i for E55
capcityman: Great move! I am a long time BMW owner. Multiple M Cars & others. E28 535is, E28 M5, E36 M3, E39 540iA and current E46 M3 (great fun car). However, the direction of BMW has left me depressed. I put my deposit for an E55 last year and am looking to a probable November delivery this year. I'm going with Alabaster White with the Charcoal interior. I posted a Subject of: "Giving up on Bangleization" last year and got many responses, mostly positive! BMW has problems on the horizon in my mind. Good luck with your decision and enjoy!!

Heard someone traded a 7 for that car at ASC-- Slver/Charcoal? What options? Did they make you pay a premium?
If not, how long ago did you get on list?

Details on how I acquired my E55
Talk about an impulse purchase. Although I had been mulling over a trade for my 745i, I hadn't decided what or when. I read the Washington Post rave about the car and on Monday I gave a call to American Service Center and they said they had an E55 in stock, but there would be a $10,000 premium. When I negotiated the trade of my car, and demanded a NAV system be installed, as well as a phone, the $10,000 shrunk to about $5,000, so I can't really complain given how popular the car is.

Capcityman, which dealer? If they had an E55 in stock it was probably ordered and the owner with first rights turn it down. Specualtion of course.

The dealer was American Service Center and they said the car was not ordered by anyone but was provided by MB as a bonus to the dealership for its past performance.
I am not getting the COMMAND system but rather an Alpine add-on. Not ideal, but the best I could do.
