Lightweight Battery, losing more fat

Figure I have lost 55lbs between the exhaust and 19" wheels not including headers, plus an additional 16 lbs myself by adding cardio to my lifting with new supps.

Looking at doing something with the pig in the trunk that some say weigh in over 60lbs.

Looking at this for my weekend Beast.

Also like the bracket.

http://www.amazon.com/Braille-Batter...=pd_sbs_auto_5

Anyone running other options?

Sorry to bring back an old thread. But, this thread and others on lightweight batteries lead me to the Big Crank ETX30L. I believe its made by deka, who makes braille batteries(?). I got mine from battery mart and I ordered the SAE terminal kit, which you will need. The ETX30L weighed 22.5 lbs. My OEM stock weighed 58lbs. If this lighter battery works out for DD, then I will saved 35.5 lbs. Since I am a wagon, I wanted to lightened a little.

I use the the C6 vet battery but it is 30lbs. I give up the extra 15 lbs to make sure the car starts in the cold and does not die in the middle of flashing any tunes. Not the lightest but another option and does take 35lbs off

So far so good. I DD my wagon and no issues with this new battery. The past week the car was not driven for 3 days and it started right up.

Well, my experiment with this Big Crank ETX30L battery is a failure.

Starting in early/mid April, I started getting once a week this warning of convenience features not avaible due to low battery. I have never ever before gotten that warning. Then, first week of May, I tried to start my car in the morning and nothing. Everything is dead. That made no sense to me. I checked the little battery up front and it showed 12.9 volts. I checked the ETX30L and it showed less then 2 volts. That made no sense to me. So I charged up the ETX30L for about and an hour. Drove to work. But, the warning of no convenience feature still showed up. I put my OEM battery back in the car on May 5. No more problems of any kind and all is good and normal.

I drive my car everyday. It is very rare if there is a day that I do not drive my car. I know some of you with smaller batteries have no issues. But for me and my DD wagon, this specific lightweight ETX30L battery did not make the cut. I will now go Exotic-Metals route of using a C6 vet battery that it is 30lbs. In case somebody asks, why am I doing this just to save a few pounds. My response is I do not know....I just want to mod my car. I will report back later on the C6 battery for my DD wagon.

I'm not sure if this is a Corvette battery, but I run a Duralast 47-DL in my E46 and will do so in the W211 once the full size battery expires.

The Duralast 47-DL is 30lbs and is rated at 590CCA with a 7yr warranty from AutoZone. It has a sealed top and includes a vent tube (you'll see a fill cap on top, but the cap is not vented).

You'll save roughly 15lbs compared to the group 49 size. Reliability is what made me reconsider going with a true lightweight battery as some have had success (no issues), others like yourself, have not.

Hope this helps!

Here's a pic of the battery in my E46:

I also want to save few pounds swapping the batteries, but I do not want to have any issues as my Wagon is also a DD.

So the large trunk battery is a Group 49 (381x175x192mm)
there are also Group 48 (306x175x192mm)
and Group 47 (246x175x190mm)

Group 47 seem to be a great choice to fill the space nicely, while being much shorter and obviously much lighter.

Group 47:
- Interstate has the MEGA-TRON 90/T5, 32.1 pounds
- Odyssey has the PC1200MJT, 37.5 pounds
- Optima has the red Top 8020-164, 31.7 pound

Anyone has experience with any of these ?

its obvious weight loss isnt as important as cost. i posted a 5 lb battery that has 700 cca. more than enough for any daily driver or charging system.

Obviously we are talking $150-$300 batteries here, not $1000 (oh and BTW that battery is 360 CCA...)

I got the bosche mini cooper battery in my e46 m3. If the e55 dies I will use the same thing to shave some lbs.

Bumping this thread, as I recently decided to replace the OEM MB battery in my car, as it was approaching 5 years old, and was loosing the ability to hold a charge.

I went with the DEKA ETX30L (Braille B3121), $100 from Battery Mart. I made two new brackets from aluminum flat stock I had in the garage and used all the factory mounting holes, so no drilling of the car required.

Stock Battery: 58lbs
DEKA ETX30L: 21lbs

I did notice that if the car sits for a few weeks, I need to put the battery charger on it for a few hours, as the ETX30L does not have the same "reserve" as the factory battery.

The first prototype bracket I made, which I subsequently revised and then polished:

the thread actually never had a cost mentioned simply weight loss. as for the c/a the vph900 has twice the c/a and 33 ah and weighs 7 lbs. if cost is the main determining factor maybe your in the wrong brand of car

I don't think anyone is complaining they cant afford it. Its just that the batteries you bring up don't meet the criteria, mainly price. And when you break it down, the extra 10 lbs a voltphreaks saves you vs deka/braille-- well, the 700++ bucks just aint worth it!!

Maybe you have mob money to burn..

Deka makes great batteries but if you're planning to use that ETX30, which is about 26AH, as replacement for normal use of the stock 100AH battery, you are just kidding..

sorry... but that VPH 750 battery is NOT good for replacement of the stock battery in a mercedes E55, except for TRAK use only.

it will hardly work for starting the engine
also because I am quite sure the advertised 700 CrankingAmps value is to be understood as just a peak, very short term, figure.

reading their specs (which are indeed very poor as they do NOT specify anything conerning the number and type of cells making the pack)
I see that during the last few years they begun to over-rate their batteries.

in fact, this VPH 750 battery is advertised to have a 25Ah battery capacity.
This not only is nearly 2 times the 15Ah they were advertising just a few years ago for the same battery
something you can still see here
https://p10.secure.hostingprod.com/@...ison_chart.htm

I can understand that their over-rating their batteries can be partly justified (only form a marketing point of view) based on the fact that a lithium battery does not suffer the Peuckert's effect of diminishing performance when subject to heavy loads, as lead-acid batteries do;

indeed, if you pay attention , you can detect the advertised figure remains mis-leading: infact they specify just 30 mins of Reserve Capacity (versus 28mins of a few years ago...).
Now, RC is, per definition, the time in minutes a battery can afford a 25Amp load.
If that battery was really a 25AHour battery, its Reserve Capacity would be 60 minutes or 1 Hour (it would be less if it was a lead-acid battery suffering for the said Peuckert effect).
So, why the state just 30 minutes ?
... just because it is NOT truly 25AH but it's still only a 15AH battery, indeed !

the misinformation can be detected also by other factors: the battery weight.
I noticed this because that battery is 5 pounds, Gross.
So I suppose a Net, CELLs weight of about 4 pounds.

Now, considering that I do have installed in my car, as a secondary battery (i.e., besides my jumbo main lithium pack in the trunk), a true 24Ah lithium pack whose net weight is about 8 pounds (and the energy density of my cells is the higher available)
... I just caught them for this very first reason

For me, the braile does not work well for day to day on our high electrical load AMG`s very well, but will hold enough power to make a few passes at the track. I use a C6 vet battery but it is more like 26 lbs but alllows me to daily drive with it.

When you say a battery for C6, do you mean Delco 90-6YR?
