Well, my car was in the body shop and the old heat exchanger was beat and the tabs were broken.. So I gave them my new aftermarket one. Well, they put it on without filling it with coolant.

I drove the car for a bit and it had NO power.. super slow. So I changed the pump added coolant and then bled the system using the pump... I got ALL of the air out.

I noticed the car ran great but the s/c still shut down here and there and also after a good few seconds of full throttle (Coolant temp never went above 80 though). So, I thought it might have been because I am missing the one intake tube and I think the car is sucking in heat off of the header...


Well, this was Friday, it is now Monday and I just added a reservoir full of coolant... I'm afraid that my intercooler might be cracked.. there is no reason for me to have to add that much coolant in only a few days!

Anyone else have any experience with this?

Also, if this is the issue, where can I find a new I/C?

Coolant temp sounds fine you should be watching IATs not coolant temp, you definitely need to figure out where your coolant is going...maybe you didn't get all the air out the first time and a bubble worked its way out causing the fluid level to appear as if it dropped , try pressure/vacuum test the system, compression test motor etc..

While not common, my tech said he has seen several cracked intercoolers over the years. Fills the whole cavity with coolant and can get bad fast!

Not saying you have that but if it turns out to be IC. You'd have to try some guys that are parting out engines or of course off to the stealer for rape.
