ESP inoperative, dealer broke it.
Not 5 miles down the highway, I got a message “ESP inoperative”, the car do not seem to lose power or drive funny, just the message, as I try to use cruise control, that is inoperative too! I can confirm that ESP is indeed inoperative as I pull off a huge unintended sideway drift as I accelerated out of a curve!
So I stop on the side of the road and call my service advisor to let him know what happened. The next day the car was in service again to fix the ESP issue.
Fast forward, got a call from the SA, saying that the ESP issue is fixed, that I had wrong size tire in the front (?! No word about the tires in the back !?). I run theses tire for 6 months without any issue, ESP related or other. Picked up the car, not 5 miles down on the highway the ESP light was on again!
Oh and the cargo cover is still not working.
I have no confidence in theses bozos, they are not trying to fix the issues, they break more stuff, they are just trying to find excuses and push back.
Anyone has experience with this issue (BTW, when I check for codes with PLX Kiwi Bluetooth, it says “no code in the ECU”, even when the light is on the dash!)
Thanks
PS: My tires are 255/40R18 and 285/35R18

Doing the math based on your sizes:
Fronts = 26.03"
Rears = 25.85"
That's less than 1%..... quite a bit less actually. To be fair, all tires measure out differently, and if either the fronts or rears are worn down the numbers could be off by a bit more. However, given how well matched they are in diameter I find it hard to believe that they'd ever exceed 2% even in the worst-case scenario.
I'd take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

If you are back here reading it after it did it again, that is what happened. Unplug and try one more time.

I would be quite direct with them and ask if once you took it back with inop ESP if they scanned for fault codes and if so what fault codes were logged. There are many more codes that can be logged than ever before and they give a really good indication of what dirrection to head in diagnosing issues and what components require inspection/testing, guessing and even educated guessing really isn't required in 99% of cases. Fault codes arent a diagnosis by themselves but they do provide alot of information to assist with diagnosis.
Did you happen to get a wheel alignment at this service? A poor wheel alignment can even cause ESP shutdown.
Forget the disconnect battery stuff, there is a issue, weather it be co-incidental or caused by the dealer, and it needs to be identified to prevent reoccurence.
