Question Should i change W209 CLK55 for W211 E55?

Hey everybody,

i am a member here for a longer time and the idea of buying an E55 is in my head for a pretty long time.
Now i am in a situation, in which i have opportunity to sell my W209 CLK55 for a great price, so i started to look for some clean E55 a week ago.
I found one 11/2003 black E55 with a rare two tone red/black interiour. Mileage is 109000km (cca 68k miles) and the exteriour an interiour is really clean and nice. Car drives excellent and so far the owner had no issues with it and it is great deal for the money.
It would definately need new plugs, filters, change all fluids, maybe motormounts (was shaking a bit on idle), valve cover gaskets. That is just what i found, but car was running great, transmission changing gears smoothly and airmatic seemed to lower the car nice without problems. However, you never know.

What are your opinions? Should i go for it and change my W209 for this W211? I know that maintance can be expensive as hell if something goes wrong, just like airmatic failures, etc...
I really like the look of my W209 and handling is not that bad either, but the kompressor engine is a beast, and the car is more practical for everyday use. However, MPG will never be the same as it is now and fuel prices are soooo high here in EU.

Is it worth the extra risk for maintaince costs? I would appreciate every opinion here. Thanks guys.

I dont know what 03s are like over there since the E55 came out there a few months before here.
But on the states side, we generally stay away from 03 model year since they had a few problems.
I had a 04 C32 before which was similar to your situation. The C32 was my daily and gave me no problems. I upgraded to a E55 which does drink more gas and does cost more to maintain. But to this day not a lot of cars can touch this cars performance and style. HOw often do you get the chance to take on a Corvette Z06/BMW M5 and walk it? I get a lot more looks with my E55 than i did with my C32. It was hard to tell the C Class was a AMG since so many were around.

Id look for a later model E55, preferably 04-05.

Your CLK55 is beautiful ! are you looking in 4 doors or looking for performance ? If you looking for 4 doors then E55 is a great choice but performance and reliability stay away from 03. Never drove a CLK55 but it should be pretty fast like 5sec from 0-60 ? How much you have to put extra if you get the E55 and since you have to do some basic maintenance to start up like $1k, Either way, they are both excellent cars good luck !
