So, you can safely run open headers off longtubes for a DD without any damage to anything??
Also, what exactly are open headers?
Does it just mean that where the longtubes end the rest of the exhaust would continue it instead just ends there?

I know for sure these cars are designed to have back pressure in the exhaust. Car would FOR SURE be down on power....how much is anybody's guess. Definitely down on trq too.
Not sure what zero back pressure would do to valves etc.
All I know is back pressure is a good thing on these forced induction cars.

Anyone that has had exhaust work done to their car and has turned it on with just the headers connected knows how ungodly loud it is. If you think that cabin drone is bad and annoying, imagine this at all RPM's (including idle)
Not to mention the fact the loss in backpressure will lead to a loss in overall torque.
I'd also imagine that not having the rest of the exhaust piping connected could lead to overheating and cracking of the headers (you'd be reducing the amount of thermal conductivity by not having that added metallic surface area radiating out to the atmosphere). The smell would also be horrific since the exhaust gases would be coming out right next to your window. The sound wouldn't be refined--it'd be more like you were driving a tractor.
In short, while this may initially sound like a good idea and a good way to get "attention" and "look cool", the drawbacks are far too numerous.
Not to mention you wouldn't be able to hide having this setup from the cops. It's stupid.
Video clips from the net (watch the tools fall from the bench):

(In actuality, the videos don't even do it justice. It is *that* loud)

Well, I'll take that as a no and "you would get tired of the sound anyways".
Thanks for entertaining my less-knowledgeable queries, I guess I'll stick with
getting LTH for exhaust sound.

thats just dumb --- why dont you just take off the mufflers? that will give you alot of sound but not nearly as loud and ugly as straight headers.

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
1) Neighbors will hate you
2) In LA, cops will love you
3) Judge will give it to you (big fine in Cali for missing cats and open exhaust just invites scrutiny)

At the track last night...even though my times were weak...people were coming out of the woodwork to talk to us because of how the car sounded with the cutouts open. The drag bike dudes were the funniest. Sitting there on their 8 second bikes gawking at my car...one guy literally said, "on a cool factor of 1 to 10, I give it a 15".
Long tubes with cut outs is the ticket.
Uploading vids tonight so you'll be able to hear it.
There is no way in hell I could possibly ever drive it with it open as a dd.
