It's like a fun new car!

I cut my hoodliner and removed the plastic hood vent piece and can hear the kompressor pretty good now. I like it so much, I don't even listen to music in the car anymore.

I told you guys this actually does work in terms of sound. It roars without that liner and vent.

Ok sorry, newb question. But i was looking into this and what is the benefit of cutting the liner rather than taking the whole thing out? Do you have a pic of where you cut it? I love the idea!

Also, a really stupid question..... what piece are you referring to when you say the plastic hood vent?

Thanks

Taking out that plastic piece actually lets a lot of hot air out of the engine bay..You can see the hot air rising out of the vent..

Did mine as well two weeks ago...but didn't cut the liner...thinking of removing it all together. I'm convinced the only reason MB did this was for noise supression. The whole deal about the paint from the hood being affected I'm just not buying it. Think about how many cars have hood w/o liners and I don't ever recall hearing about paint inssues.

These things were 90K machines new and the typical buyer at the time may have been turned off by the "noise" of the blower. But now that these these are bargains and us Hot Rodders are buying them...well that all changes and we're doing what we all do best...make them faster and sound better

side note...On my 993tt those 2 snails hanging off the back aren't too far from the sides of the rear bumper and on the sides there is no insulation. I have not seen nor heard of any paint issues on these cars and I guarantee you those little guys get waaaaaaay hotter than the top of our ISI blower.

In the end I may be wrong but I'm still not a believer that the "blanket" is there to protect paint. My biggest problem is removing the little plastic retainer buttons w/o destroying the liner(in-case I want to put back to stock in future)...I haven't spent too much time on it but If anyone knows the secret please divulge.

Chad

Doesn't the plastic Hood vent hold a whole bunch of tubing in place?

I thought there was a water issue from rain in the past with this mod. Not that I drive mine in the rain, but for those that do.

Possibly, but if there is any sort of significant under hood fire(aren't they all significant anyway) with or w/o that piece of fabric the car is toast IMO.
