You can run signifcantly more boost through a Cast Iron Block, as compared to alloy. Although alloy is lighter I would rather have Cast Iron block with a blower when its coming from an American automaker.

Tell that to the Top fuel gang that are running almost 9000HP through an alloy block my friend.

They have made some wonderful products out of aluminum that DOES hold up now a days. And I would GLADLY take the weight savings anyday.

Check out the ford SVT catalog, as they rate their alloy blocks North of 1000HP these days.

If the rumors are true about the GT600 coming in 2013, I might just be a Ford guy again. For a a Grand you could bump that up to over 700HP. Not bad for a 50K+ car, IMHO.

Edit: here is there catalog
http://www.fordracingparts.com/2011-...0Catalog_A.pdf

Check out pages 98-106 for bare blocks. And by the way if you are really concerned about it they do make an Iron block, but for the life of me I don't know why you would want it.

Sadly, they no longer rate them in HP, but I have their old catalog that does, and they are NORTH of 1000HP

I agree Alloy blocks can make power but not as durable as Cast Iron. I would give up the weight savings for greater durability. Drag motors do not last that long in general, just sayin.

But yeah its exciting to see all the power coming from these motors, if FORD can plant and distrubute the power off the line as well as AMG can they are on to something amazing.

Examples of cars with Cast Iron Motors

Jeep I6 (I consider to be one of the most bullet proof motors ever)
Terminator Cobra (Can run 28lbs of boost on stock block and internals)
American Diesel Truck motors (Cummins, Duramax, Powerstroke) All of these cars will run for a long time if well maintained, and make huge power numbers!
