Could some of you guys who own a E55 W211 check the following for me:
1. drive in S mode at a constant speed of around 35 mph (55 kph) for 10-20 seconds or so (throttle almost untouched, pressed very slighly only!) and then change to M mode and tell me what gear you're in.
2. do the same as above and then press the throttle about 1/4 (not more!) and tell me what happens (does your auto tranny downshift or do you hear the supercharger whining and no downshift happens?).
Thanks, guys. I really appreciate your help.
The more people participate in this "experiment", the more help it will provide to me. Thanks again.

So what happens if you gently press the throttle at that speed and that gear, does the auto tranny downshift or do you get a whining sound and speed increases only slightly because of the 4th gear at that speed?
I'm asking because I might have discovered a flaw in the tranny setup, at least for ME it is very annoying.

Car does not downshift until accelerator is pressed between 30-40% of travel. Acceleration is still strong enough in 4th that the tranny sees no reason to downshift.

I have noticed a similar problem. The tranny is adaptive and if you drive real easy for a while, it doesn't want to downshift. If you keep your foot in it, it will eventually shift down. Of course, the easy answer is to drive harder.

Noticed the same thing a while ago. 4th gear. Supercharger makes quite a bit more noise but you have to get into it for the trans to downshift. It will still pull fairly hard up to the downshift...
As you all know use of manual mode solves this. I find 3rd gear a nice banance on the twisty roads....

Thanks guys. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
For me, it is annoying if the car stays in the 4th gear at around 35 mph, especially in the city. If I want more acceleration, I have to press the throttle further which results in a downshift and too much speed increase (at around 40% throttle). If I gently press the throttle, speed increase isn't satisfactory at all for me.![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
What I want is a downshift even if I gently press the throttle.
I talked to AMG directly about this and they said that if I'm willing to sacrifice some gear change comfort, they might be able to update my gearbox software on my visit end of this month when they do the 300 kph speed raise and the height optimization.
I'll tell you guys if things have improved, I really hope so.
Thanks again for helping me.
