If I'm Not Going to Mod, Is E63 The Better Car?
#27
I drove both and liked both. It came down to which one I got a smoking deal on first. Having a warranty also was a key requirement.
The all-out top performance (55) was not a huge driver of my decision as I have a couple sports cars for that. Although those torque curves sure look yummy.
I am doing some relatively minor mods to my 63 (mostly looks, maybe ECU tune). It is already damn fast in stock form for a DD IMO.
Either car is a winner, stock or modified.

If your going to keep it stock and not looking for a lot of power E63 is the way to go.. Cant beat the sound of that 6.2..

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Guy says NO MODS, yet most have to mention headers and tune......Out here where I live those are considered mods........stock for stock, E63 overall for drivability and appearance. The E55 front end being dated. Most that made the jump state it is more civil though they miss the E55 torque . Better MPG with the 7 speed to boot.
In a race, you will still lose to an E55. Most E55s have had the pump issue resolved by now and rarely does someone gun it multiple times back to back. 99% of the time it is 1 or two times anyhow so heat soak is irrelevant.

RE: E63 vs. E55
I've had my E63 almost 3 years, and aside from a Quaife and charcoal filter de-install, am stock. The W211 E63 is without a doubt the best overall balanced Benz I have owned, it just does everything you throw at it very well. I've driven a half dozen or so W211 E55s, both stock and modded; they are animals when modded, about as fast as my V12 depending on pully size, tune etc., but stock for stock the E63 is the better car in every way. suspension, looks, 7 speed tranny, brakes; and it ain't no slouch either.
I like mine enough that I just bought 4 additional years of warranty for it; contemplated getting a new W212 E63 TT, and I will at some point, but decided this E63 is a keeper in my garage and will share space with the W212 when one gets added in the future.

Raron- Wife was bugging me about getting a four door because we have a lot of coupes. So, if I was going to do that, why not get one of the fastest four doors !! So, I found a great 2007 E63. Got on the forums here and that was the first mistake !!!! Just kidding. Craig referred me to the great guys at Buckhead Imports and the rest is history. Nothing major, but had the car lowered, blacked out the grille, flat badge, tuned ,blacked out foglight rings and next week they are installing the MBH long tubes and painting the calibers McLaren orange and remapping.
Nothing extreme, extreme, but just gives the car a personal custom look.
Either way, if you get the 63 stock, you and the wife will certainly enjoy it. Just keep in mind that there is a wide range of options at your disposal !! Good Luck with your decision.

Your right brother. Buy the cheaper e55, add a warranty, e63 front end conversion and a meziere pump.
That will still be way cheaper than a E63 with the same looks and if the mod bug did bite down the road, you bought the right car after all.

OP-buy '05-06 E55 for sure bc how can 516ft-lbs stock < 465ft-lbs tq of E63?? Also in big ole Tx where i once lived not many turns or canyons to carve. NA not fun as road street car, Forced induction a must to beat them redlight races there.
Not to offend any E63 211 owners, but i wouldn't even straightup trade my E55 in classified for sale now for any E63 w211. Why did MB ditched the NA platform for the new TT?

The newest E55 is going to be at least six years old now. You can't compare that to a newer E63. Of course the 63 is going to be a better car.
Personally, I love my E55 and will miss it dearly when it's gone. I was going to trade up to a 63 until the mention of the TT that will soon be available. Now, I'm going to hang on to the 55 until I can get my hands on a used TT.
After having a couple of forced induction cars, I just can't see owning a naturally aspirated one so I decided to skip the 63 altogether.
