If I'm Not Going to Mod, Is E63 The Better Car?

As I consider the E55 I'm wondering if the E63 would be the better overall car for our circumstances...

So the E55 is a legendary beast on the strip when modded etc. However, this car will be used by the wife as well. And I don't plan on doing any real mods other than lowering it perhaps and wheels. So that being said is the newer N/A car:

1) More reliable?

2) Does it have some features or creature comforts the E55 didn't?

3) Ride or handle better?

4) Stock for stock which is faster?

I have not driven either but plan on driving a 55 today. I have avoided driving 63 because I used to be so biased to the 55 but I'm now wondering...

For the wife a 350, 550 and 63 will work, very smooth.

Raron Jan 7, 2012 10:31 AM

Well 350 won't work because I'll drive it quite a bit too!

E63 is a better car overall. Stock I think the 2 cars are close, e55 may have slight edge due to tq. If your not modding E63! Modding E55!

E63: better looking, better Handling

E63 is better stock. You throw in longtubes and a tune, and it will definitely hold its own on the street when prevoked.

AKnight55 Jan 7, 2012 10:54 AM

Not going to mod?? Good luck with that..

You guys are funny - you make it sound like a Civic ... Hold it's own LOL

Love mine and less to worry about w/o a supercharger to.
I hate limp mode and with turbo's and or supercharger its a fact of life you will deal with.
A tune is good for about 30 hp by its self and with longtubes maybe a total of 60 to 70 hp increase which will cost you big bucks for such a small bang IMO.
Some say the tune is worth it with the tq it gives you but, I just can't justify the cash on it whereas with my cobra I could because its over 600 rwhp.

baldmike73 Jan 7, 2012 12:08 PM

how bout a E bluetec? satisfies the daily driveability for the wife and has the tq for you - ad then call a tuner and really unleash the tq + get 30+ mpg -

love my 55 though - will be sad day when i upgrade to a 63 212 wagon (let the depreciation begin) :)

You are right brotha. If you are buying a car like this, you must have ALOT of will power to keep it stock.

I hope you have more self control than most of us. I cant leave anything stock. I have a 540hp diesel truck i swore i would only put a programmer/intake and 2 450cc dirt bikes that have $3000+ in the motors alone and lets not start on the E55 :smash: If you can honestly resist the modding bug than go with the E63. I drove both before i got the 55 but i knew i couldnt leave it alone so that was my BIG factor.

Raron Jan 7, 2012 01:21 PM

Well I usually do mod my primary toys. Thing is, this will be the household sedan and I'll have a 928 or M6 to mod. So I think I'll actually do ok resisting the urge.

That is unless I end up getting the wife a 3rd car making this a 2nd toy for me! In that case I would surely do some mild mods like exhaust, tune, pulley where applicable.

If the wife is not a gearhead, I say E550 bro.

382hp is no slouch!!

Throw on the AMG package and it's pretty darn close to an E55/E63 just not nosebleed horsepower. My neighbor has one and it's near spot on with my car looks wise. Ticks me off, but what can you do.

Edit***just noticed you will be driving. 63 all the way...hands down. Better handling etc etc.

what kind of tunes are out there for the new 550? 402hp stock not bad - imagine a tune - will be in the neighborhood of stock 55!

e63 is the way to go.. but trust me.. i said i was planning to keep it stock, but i have a whole page of mods im dying to pop on now.. and thats where it conflicts with me rather getting the 55.,.

tbal Jan 8, 2012 04:48 AM

Same old story.

E63 guys are going to say E63 hands down.
E55 guys are going to say E55 hands down.
Guys with neither car are going to add their 2cent bs.

End of the day, instead of asking opinions of others, drive the 2 ****ing cars! See what you like. Jeez

mikey33 Jan 8, 2012 05:14 AM

Get the 55 and update bumper, mirrors, and rear end then mod so you have the best of both worlds :y

hyperion667 Jan 8, 2012 07:56 AM
