My Next MB 06 CLS55 or 06 S65
Peeps,
Question for you. My plan it to keep my E55 but in about a year or so when it hits 100k miles I'll be looking for a new MB. If prices/ miles were the same (mid to low 40k's,) and you wanted a nice daily driver would you get an 06 CLS55 or an 06 S65?
I love the E55 motor and it's modibility and I think the CLS55 body style is goregous, but the S65's power is legendary so any advice would be welcome! I'll make sure either car as an extended warranty to repair costs aren't really a factor.
My real issue here is couldn't a modded CLS55 (like my E55 see sig), beat an S65? So if that's the case why go for an S65 when in the end it won't be faster?
I've never driven an S65 so i could be missing something else here. This car will be my daily driver (100 miles daily round trip), so reliability is also a factor.
Thanks in advance!

Also tonight I'm going to do a ***** out 0-150MPH (hopefully) run on perfectly straight, 1 mile closed road near where I live and will record it for your viewing pleasure.
It's exactly 1 mile in length, a private road that's closed after dark so you'll all behold the Power of the Stage 3 Jerry tune! ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Some people buy an S65 for the luxury as well as performance. I dont think most owners care if they get beat by a modded E55 or CLS55. Same goes for those who buy exotic high end cars like ferrari, lambo, aston, etc.

No if ands or buts, the S65
If you have never driven a 65AMG car, try it. I got to drive Adams CL65 from Malones Automotive here in Atlanta, and those motors will clean you clock in all aspects of the rpm range.
His was tuned with some light upgrades on top of that, and it is just insane. Much smoother in a around town compared to the 55K AMG motor, and if you plan to do 100 miles a day, that car cruises so smooth it feels like you are in first class Jet.
MPG's will not be optimal for daily driving, but if I ever did drop my E55, it would be for a CL65 or S65 AMG. A tune with a small shot of sauce to cool down the charge and you are looking at a stupid sleeper that will probably runs deep 10's off the street

65, hands down. Much better interior and very smooth powertrain. Very happy with the RennTech ECU/TCU on this platform, highly recommend it.

Thank you all, an '06 S65 it will be! A Jerry tune on an S65 will deliver 750HP and 850 TQ with just a tune!
Thanks guys this helps alot.
And I will be careful with my run tonight but hopefully you'll all like the vid. No dyno, no 1/4 mile just a straight shot on a closed mile road so you'll be able to clearly see the speed, distance and time of everything as it unfolds.
I will leave traction control on so I don't wipe out.![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

i dunno if it's just me, but the old style S classes look too dated. i know they are stupid fast and are faster than the newer gen S65's, but the interior and the exterior are both dated. I have a CLS55 and love it and would not trade it for a 2006 S65. now a 2007 S65 or CL65, i would daily drive anyday, but the price of those is almost double

I do agree though than the 2006 S65 looks very bland, but that could be a good thing as it's a sleeper and cops won't even bother to look at you. Tons of cops here in AZ, I must pass about 10 every day on my drive and they'll all looking to give tickets. (It's a revenue thing.)
Plus at 42 years of age now, I don't need want a super, "Look at me" car to be honest.

I would keep the E55 even 100K miles. How much you can really spend to keep E55 running well ? $2k to $5k top (IMO)

Personally I would go with a W221(any engine) over an W220... It just looks way too dated.
Having said that, a CLS still looks like a spring chicken and would be my decision

Agreed, but I guess the S65 motor is to die for and as I'm really all about the HP I think this is the way I'll go. Plus having an E55 now, pretty well modded, the CLS55 from the inside probably looks/feels the same.

Been there done that.

with all that being said, if you want a luxo-rocketship that will do 10 sec in a quarter mile and get u there and back in comfort, a 2006 S65 is the car for you.

I love my S65, it's old school but I think the lines are classic. then again, we are in a w211 forum talking about an old body CLS, so most of us are driving "classic" benz models. But cpo isn't an option, it's a necessity! I'm only running mid 11's, but it is so much more comfortable than my e63 on the highway it's not a comparison. Took a buddy of mine out who drives a stock e55, and he thought his e55 felt faster because the S is so smooth, but for 100 miles a day you'll enjoy it. The maintenance is no joke, though. Front brakes are 900 bucks a rotor
and the abc system is notorious. But once you get used to the size, it's hard to go back, the loaner e350 feels like a Honda Fit

I do plan on keeping my E55 beyond 100k miles when my warranty expires but given my commute figured a lower mile car might be a good way to go. (I drive 100 miles to and from work daily).
Privately, I've also dreamed about owning an S65 and it's motor and having a 750/850 (hp/tq) with tune as a daily driver is not a bad thing! Plus I think an S65 is still the most powerful production sedan in the world? Moreover the new S65 still retains the same engine and tranny from the 2006 (I coud be mistaken), so all you're really getting is a nicer body if you got a new S65.
Thanks again for your thoughts/advice.
