People are stuck in the year 1970 where they think once a car hits 100k miles it self destructs, which couldn't be farther from the truth since cars are nothing like they used to be a long time ago and go well beyond 100k and even 200k all the time as long as any kind of maintenance is done.

Good to see you say goodbye to your friend. Its true, most BMW drivers are a&*%*!!! My friend of 16 yrs got me interested into the W211 when he purchased his new 06 in 06 E500 4matic for $69k. Really nice car, great interior.
I waited 2yrs (Dec 2008) for depreciation to kick and searched for months to find the one i wanted. Found one at dealer with avante gard package, 27k miles CPO'd and paid $35k for it +TTT w panny, heated/ac seats, sport package,wheels, DS/PS rear speakers. He was mad when he saw the car and we really stopped talking for 6 months. I did try to persuade him to find a used one, but he wanted new. We broke the ice pretty much when we ran into each other at the mall and he saw my car after i modded it. 19rims, elm, black grille. We arent as close as we used to be, but i'm okay with that.

I just don't get it. I still love BMWs. I'm more biased now that I have an E55, and I kind of chuckle when they try to race me, but...can't imagine losing a friend over it.
Maybe it was the emotional trauma of the beast raping the bimmer?

Yeah, nothing wrong with BMWs. I hang out with a few friends who have some really nice ones. I've been through several different cars and still have lots of friends from all walks of vehicles. Every car group has great people and bad people, not much you can do about that but to avoid the bad ones.
But brands that are paired usually have the biggest groups of negatives towards each other, such as Mercedes/BMW, Mitsubishi/Subaru, Ford/Chevy, Lexus/Infiniti, etc.... They are compared to each other constantly, so they try extra hard to find negatives about each other.

I converted one of those people. I was driving my boss's brother to the airport one night. He's what's called a "country boy"...and had made fun of me for driving a "gang banger car" after he saw a pic with my rims:
