e63 tail light upgrade
I bought some E63 tails for my car and they didn't come with the bulbs. I figured no biggie as I could use my bulbs. Turns out they don't fit. So I went out to buy a new bulb panel and was told the plug is also different from mine...is this true? No one has it in stock so I can't see it in person but if it's true, how is everyone doing the swap?

Let me guess. you bought used tail lights? E63 taillights have a board on the back of them with the bulbs soldered onto the board. There isn't a way to replace the light bulbs and the factory doesnt allow you to purchase the board with the bulbs on it. You have the buy the whole taillight with the board/ lights included.

I made the same f-in mistake. So unbelievably pissed....got the lights with no bulbs. Took my board out and tried installing it with no luck. ![wall](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/banghead.gif)
Wondering if anyone has modded the newer taillights to accept the board? Looks like a little modding will make it fit??? Not sure I want to hack them up though...

Sooo...since I was already on the verge of having a heart attack, I got a pair of pliers and started hacking away. It's been working flawlessly although I had to remove the yellow covers for the signal lights to make it work and now the signal lights are white/yellow when they flash. Whatever....lol.

Can you switch the bulbs for orange ones? Other than the bulbs not wanting to fit into the housing, everything else line up?
Thanks for the reply. Buying stuff online sucks sometimes.

The bulbs are soldered on and I don't know where to find orange bulbs that size either. I THINK it was just the signal/reverse bulb holes that needed to be modified. Everything else lined up.

Thanks, I found them online for about $70 bucks shipped(free shipping).
Thing is, I should have just bought the DEPO brand lights cause they come with bulbs and everything. Doh. Would have saved me money, time, and some frustration. Lesson- don't bother switching out taillights unless the bulbs are include or you know what you are getting yourself into.

I've read good reviews about the DEPO lights. I'm returning these lights without the boards ($179.00) and purchasing the DEPO lights for $199.00.
The lights I have now look great, OEM quality, but do not include the bulbs/board which would cost me about $70.00 totaling $250.00.
