Before I am flame jumped, there's been quite a bit of Ford Lightning and Stang guys owning them for 2nd cars on lately.
Just wanted to have a little Chevy Ford fun.
And YES I know the Shelby 650hp is coming.....
Vid of track fun here.

Either would be a kick in the tail during HPDEs...that 650 HP Shelby = holy Dearborn.
I’d learn a lot riding along with Randy Pobst too!

but the real question is how would it compare to an E55... ok, maybe stock it won't do, but the tuned/pulley-ed cars may have a sporting chance

That match up isn't exactly fair but soon enough the new Shelby will get its turn. If you have looked into the Shelby more you will see the 650hp is rated at a low rpm and can turn 7k for drag races. I seen a dyno awhile back of 1 making 719hp at 7k rpm on another forum.

I've read from my fellow track junkies that the ZL1 although it is great, it doesn't perform consistently just like the ZR1. Heat soak kicks in and it starts to take over and rob that engine of it's power. I do love the magnetic suspension, diff cooler, front splitter, and massive brakes in the front. It's a recipe for success.

That aside, I would still take the boss and save the cash or buy a GT500 over the ZL1.
Cannot wait for the 2013 to hit Evan Smith's hands. I predict low 11's stock.

To even things up I have one word, Vortech. I have nothing bad to say about GM, wouldn't want my door to get kicked in during the middle of the night by black suits for government rehabilitation.

The latest and greatest Camaro doesn't really give me pause.
But the latest Stang...I am cautious.
I've seen a lot of street mustangs lay down sub standard times, but Ford really seems to be getting together lately.
The new ones should be compared to vettes

In three years the Mustang will still be fairly tight and bearable. In 3 years the Camaro will have a solid engine/tranny but everything else around it will have fallen apart. Same as the Caddy and same as the ZR1. Your whole world will consist of 3 things, 'Buzz, Click, Whirr'. They just don't know how to build a solild interior. Powertrain hell yes.

Also, with the Boss forged bottom end, just throw on a Kenne Belle Mammoth kit to even the odds, and say hello to 800rwhp. All the ZL1 will see is the 302s tails.

Sorry but the mustang will same the same IDENTICAL problem. I've been in 3 different mustangs ( all of them the newer body styles ) and they were HORRIBLE inside. The noises alone felt like I was in a KIA. I don't like the Camaro's interiors either, but I absolutely LOVE the rest of the ZL1.

SN95 and subsequent models sure, but New Edge Mustang? No sir, they are alot tighter. This isn't my opinion, it is well followed. Even guys on this board with CTS-Vs and ZR1s complain about interior build quality and 'cheapness' of components. I drove a CTS-V not 2 weeks ago with 22k on the clock and it felt like I was in your KIA. I haven't had the chance to personally drive a ZR1 yet but everyone that has done a write up on it says the same thing, cheap insides. Not trying to start a holy war and I'm in no way advocating the Ford either, I just feel, at this time in the history of ponycars, Ford has the edge on a quality feeling product. Who knows? Maybe General Maintenance will step up their game in the next few years.
I have a co-worker that bought a 2011 mustang and she even complains about how crappy the interiors are...lol.
I am in no way a GM or Ford fan...although they both have cars I love. I do prefer GM cars over Ford cars, generally because of their powertrains. But neither of their interiors rarely woo me.

+135hp/+175tq-fair?
its also sad what a 580hp camaro traps in the 1/4 mi-117mph?
ooooooh the anticipation of a 650hp shelby-maybe this one will actually get into the 120's.(2011 550hp traps a **** poor 115mph) if the the newer shelby's ran like 550(or even the new 650hp) should, i would have one in a heartbeat- they look badass! whats impressive is a 505hp zo6 trapping well over 120mph for $65k
