This was considered insanity until now due to the monster torque but AMG must have REALLY beefed that thing up.
Bottom line....who cares about the G Wagon. That means we are ONE STEP closer to snagging a new one.....swapping out the TCU from the G Wagon (albeit modded for sure) and ditching the 5 speeds from hell for ultra tight shifting low 10 sec 7 speed E55's!!!! We gotta lose 1/4 sec to 1/2 sec easy on shifts down the 1/4 no?
Here is the info from press release on G65

A source close to Mercedes told Auto Evolution that the G-Class will get a 6.0-liter V12, the same engine used in the S-Class sedan, CL-Class coupe, and SL-Class roadster. In those fine automobiles, the engine makes 612 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The V12 is usually coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission, but the G65 AMG will get AMG’s Speedshift Plus 7G Tronic, a seven-speed transmission that was previously considered too weak to handle the V12’s immense torque.

It also might help to have some serious stock ownership of some oil companies.... that thing might see double digits on the highway.

you dont loose as much time as you would think from shifting. You have to remember the car is still rolling while the shift is being made. I remember a test a few years ago showing that a dog box trans (no lift shifting and downshifting) was only .3 tenths a lap faster than the stock trans car i think it was.
