The power is way more than I've ever owned. My previous cars were never over 200whp. I'm just hoping I have enough discipline to avoid speeding tickets. NYS license points system is really strict.

and its funny you mention you're in school. I'm in the same boat. I also got my w211 before I turned 21 two months ago.
For the high coolant temp, I'd replace the thermostat and do a coolant flush. Check the waterpump pulley for play when you do the belts also.
