Understanding "Pulse" seating

This is a pic of my car's dynamic seats.

I have the car in the shop for a couple other reasons and I asked the guy to look at the seats. I have never been in another AMG so I don't have a point of reference to compare with.

What exactly do the Pulse and Dynamic buttons do? When I've pressed them, I guess I was expecting a real pulsing action, more like a vibration. But instead I get a slow pushing, like an inflating ball. It works its way up and down my back but when I've heard of people saying that their seats give them a massage, I thought Pulse mode did more than that.

And as I understand it, Dynamic mode meant that the side bolsters would adjust when I take turns, which they do.

So is this right? Pulse is just an inflating (and rather useless) thing? And Dynamic is the side bolsters?

I love using it on long road trips, it helps your back by pushing on pressure points...

I disagree. Pulse sucks. Just doesn't do much. On a long trip it may help...but not a real massage.

Wait. DVC likes them? Ok. They rock. (he has more firepower in his house than I do)

Dynamic works better and I actually like it in hard driving. If you have your bolsters fully inflated...it does nothing and may throw a code. Mine did and caused me to have the whole system checked by MB. System was fine and pumps all good...and was informed not to use it if bladders were fully inflated.

Pulse works better in my AMG than it does in my Infiniti. Oh wait, my Infiniti doesn't have anything on the seats to help on long trips.

You have to keep in mind that the intensity is adjustable on the instrument cluster. I have mine at their max levels and with my minor back issues I've always had they were rather good at relieving fatigue. On their mildest setting though, I didn't see the point.

Can you guide me through adjusting the intensity? I recently purchased a 55 and I feel absolutely nothing when pressing the pulse button. Couldnt find any info on adjusting in the manual

Thanks

100% agree....For long trips it is really nice. I can get out of the car after driving 4 hours and feel fine.

its an opinion chief.

I use mine on extremely rare occasion and find that its a waste of time.

Dynamic seats are also a huge waste of time on my S-class but hey, i can tell people at dinner parties that my seats hug me when I drive like an assclown

Cool. I don't have either option and sometimes wished my car came with it. After reading this thread, I am glad I am not missing anything.

+1 on a used pump. How much are they new? My dynamic seats barely work.

Go to that page and select weak or powerful. You can do this for the passenger seat as well.

For reference, go to page 178 of the W211 manual here: http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...tic_e55amg.pdf

Sounds like your pump is dead or weak....Pulse is different too FWIW, but I am sure you knew that too....

Thanks for the link, but page 178 refers to fuel economy statistics? I searched the PDF document using control-F and it only found two instances of the word "pulse" being used in the manual. Page 135, which only discusses how to turn it on, and then the glossary...

I appreciate the help...I was able to find the dynamic seating menu and found it was already on the intense setting...I didn't see anything regarding the pulse function though.

I clearly have a pulse button on the unit on the seat itself, but cant feel anything when I press it. I test drove a 55 a few weeks ago and could clearly feel it

Any other suggestions? I doubt I'd ever have the time to actually use it anyways anymore as I don't plan on driving the car any long distances, but I bought it in LA and drove it back to seattle and it would have been great then
