Check Engine Light question...can I read code on display?
My '06 E55 with 84,500 miles just thru a CEL yesterday out of the blue. I noticed no difference in idle, acceleration, etc. When I started the car this AM it was still on. I'm a little amazed because this car has been no trouble at all!
Is there a way to read the code thru the display menu??
If not, will a generic OBD2 reader tell me what it is or do I have to go to a dealer/MB indy shop with STAR?
I live 1:30 from either and need to drive the car about 400 miles between now and my scheduled service appt in a week and a half.
I'd like to be able to get it read locally, look up what the code means, and hope that it is minor enough to wait til my service visit.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think there is a way to read the code on the display, but I could be wrong. I bought an OBD-II scanner on eBay and it has served me well for pulling / clearing codes. You don't have to go to a MB dealership to have the code read.
