Oil Cooler Plug
i noticed in another thread that one of us asked the AMG lounge if it was to be changed and they replied.it is not convenient to change both plugs and that only the pan plug was necessary.
anyway,my question is why?the cooler holds over 1qt.this is probably the first time in the cars life that it has actually taken 9.3qts of oil at an oil change.i also want to say that the oil that came out of the cooler seemed to be blacker than the oil out of the pan.
the dealer sold me the filter with a copper gasket and then a nickel gasket for the oil cooler plug,so obviously it was meant to be dropped at one point or another.the AMG lounge was right about one thing, that is it was not convenient, had to remove both skid plates instead of just one.
i am glad i went ahead and did both plugs, and i can't figure out why they would say not to do it.i may ask them.
i also switched oil.the Mobil1 gets consumed by the handful and i was reading that the Motul oil might not burn off as much.i read that Mobil1 is bad about that, and i was tired of adding 1qt every 1500 miles or so.
i will report back on the oil consumption rate of the Motul after a month or so.i went with the 300V 5W-40 which i realize isn't certified for the car,but the 8100 is and they say the 300V is a much better oil.it is orange in color and smells like candy.made me want to drink it while adding.it seemed to quiet the valve train almost instantly btw.
before anyone goes on a tirade about it being the wrong oil,i have no warranty and i did my due diligence.
i really want to know what everyone does about the 2nd plug?
thanks,
mason
didn't hurt it was only $300 either with 8 quarts of the good stuff.
the dealer wanted $450 and were only going to use 3.5-4qts.
anyway,i guess if you want something done right...
