Raced an E60 BMW M5 ( V10 ) last night...
and he pulled a car on me...I was so shocked that I went after him to speak to him and when I found out what he had I almost died....lol.
He had his car sent to Dinan for their 5.8L V10 package along with everything else that Dinan has available for the V10. It cost him almost $80K.
$80K...only to pull a car's length on my E55 with $4-$5K worth of engine mods. Wow...looks like I made the right choice. Although I must admit, it sounded simply amazing and at the end of the day it was naturally aspirated which is not easy.

While **I** would never spend that much on a naturally aspirated setup ( I love forced induction ), some people don't like forced induction. Some people will gladly pay 3-4 times as much even if it makes less power only to stay N/A. Not only that but Dinan offers a warranty.

While 80k is insane for an NA build (I thought it was way less than that) you have to admit there is something nice about never having to worry about boost pressure, pulleys, cooling and all the things that go with forced induction.
Not to mention the consistency. That car will pull just as hard on the first pull as the last.

For 80K our 55's would be in the 9s or very low 10's, but lucky guy has 80K to throw at mods so more power to him. I think you'll take him in cooler weather though. It's got to be getting hot in PR if that's where you ran.

The race was in Puerto Rico but the car was built over at Dinan. I looked over at the Dinan website and their stroker kit alone is $33k plus he apparently has the throttlebodies, complete exhaust with mufflers, ecu programming, maf housings, plus whatever extra stuff he may have. In parts alone it's like $45k or more plus labor and shipping. I was just told how much he put into it.

Yep even cheaper sometime ! I know because I was very close to going with the dark side lol it was an 09 e60 m5 for 370000 with under 40000 miles with a warranty and one owner. From what I've seen the stroker m5 takes it from a 5.0 liter and bores the engine to 5.8 liters and then is faster than a stock cts-v.

While 80k is a lot to spend. The car itself is awesome and that V10 is one of a kind. Also ESS is making a supercharger kit for around 16k and it produces solid numbers. Having owned both, the E55 can not come close to the handling and ride of the M5. Not being biased one bit, the chassis seems to have less flex. My car has pano roof so that may add road noise and rattles. The interior quality is also much nicer. Both cars have their pros and cons, but as an all around everyday car I would go with the M5. The 8000+rpm redline is addicting. Fortunately I have best of both brands and it pairs really well with the E55.

As far as handling, well, with KMAC's, toe links, lightweight rotors, LSD and about 1" lowering, the E55 becomes quite a different animal.
