Camshaft Position Sensor
Anyone have issue with Camshaft Position Sensor?
Car has failed to start a few times after it had been driven and shut off.
Engine rolls over but does not start.
After three to four attempts, engine will start.
Each time receive code for Camshaft Position Sensor.
Did search, found there were issues with the magnets in the camshaft in older models.

Spoke to an MB tech the other day who said that MB is considering making the crank and cam sensors replacement items after a certain mileage.

I had the dealer replace mine. It ended up costing ~$500. I think the sensor itself was a little under $200. It's tight there and I didn't feel like fiddling and (potentially) failing.
BTW my mechanic told me about a little trick if you ever get stranded with a hot car that won't start due to that sensor failure. Pour a bag of ice by the firewall where the motor meets the transmission, wait a few minutes, then crank. It will start. Worked for me and I was able to drive the car to the dealer.

sl55 amg Cam Shaft Senor Replacement
Gentlemen
Have any of you did this yourself? Easy on a standard 500sl. Pulleys and Supercharger lines in the way with the sl55AMG. Any hints? Looks like I may have to take off the left bank of pulleys to access. All input is appreciated.

Yes, Thought it was the Crankshaft sensor and replaced that, TWICE! To no avail. Trying to replace the CAM Shaft sensor (they are $80.00) Having a real hard time on this SL55 amg. It is behind the cooling lines to the supercharger and in addition, the AMG has additional pulleys on that side. MIght have to remove the pulleys. Anyone reading this have any clues? remencke12@gmail.com

I did mine a few years ago and yes, I believe I removed the double idler. The supercharger coolant lines have a bit of play when you remove the outer mounting bracket piece so I don't think you need to fully disconnect and mess with coolant spilling. Word of caution - be very careful removing the wire harness from the sensor. That plastic gets so brittle from heat over time the clips can break easily. This is not in an easy place to safety wire if you end up snapping the locking tab. Good luck!
Thank you again.
