Just gotta keep it in a straight line and it stays under control mostly!! No gunning it around corners, or you'll be doing doughnuts like your on ice!!! Really feels like its a completely different car without the computer cutting the power

I used to hate ESP on Mercs before I bought one because of Top Gear and what not always saying it cuts out the fun and what not but thank God it's there. I do alot of track days (not in the 55 ) so I have learnt a few tricks throughout the years and without sounding up myself I'm a fairly good driver but on the street, I want ESP 110%, it helps alot with DD'ing and especially with a car with this much torque. Would be fun to try it though, it cuts out ABS as well though...

This. I thought he was 19 years old. If you are 19 years old I commend you by the way on the car choice, too many teens with civics and riceboxes. Nice to see a teen with taste and class

17 actually. And believe me, i wouldn't sell this car if someone offered me 50 grand for it. I plan on keeping it til im about 20, then calling Jerry over at EC. My friends even know this, and my good buddy said I would crash it by then, which i most likely woulh have, and thats why im switching to an '88 190E and putting a cover on the E55. even though in 2 years this car will most likely be phased out by all the new ones, not just Mercedes, but gt500s and ZR1s, I still love the way Mercedes combined luxury to a fullest, and then said 'eh, lets just put in a huge V8 and toss a giant supercharger on it with 500 horses'. I couldn't tell you how much i love this car. Im surprised i dont hug it before i leave the garage after a drive.... lmao I have this all planned out...

Yes, I was 8-9. But I have seen this car on a very frequent basis since my father drove it home from Pennsylvania(off the boat from Germany). I know it hasn't seen dyno mode, because my dad found out about if from me last year, and he said 'it sounds like a good way to get killed by a Mercedes' (word for word). and me and my mom (parents are separated) have had the car since 2008. And im almost positive my mom hasnt used dyno mode...

Yeah, but nothing beats laying down two 50' strips of rubber with tons of white smoke!! I mean how many years did cars not have any form of traction control and people got along ok. Not saying that it's not a great saftey feature and does help with normal driving, but I didn't feel like the car was completely out of control either. You have to respect the car for sure when in dyno mode, but still can be driven safely!!

Yeah man it was a blast, had me grinnin ear to ear!! Always felt cheated before even with just esp off and computer would still cut me short. Something about the burnout that makes you feel alive!! BTW thinking about picking up some used under 2000 miles MBH headers/cats/mids/TTM 550 injectors and fuel rail for 3K, good deal? They will go along with my already ordered 172mm pulley and EC H/E and tune. What do you think?

I would drive all the time in dyno mode if it had an LSD.

I wish ESP could be disabled for good! My finger gets sore shutting it off every time I get in the car.

Drop it in dyno mode then. You have to change it back yourself. So every time you turn the car on its still in dyno mode.

Ehhh. If you stop in time who needs airbags, plus think of the weight savings if you know they won't work anyways.

Ditto here - I've never gone into dyno mode myself. I HAVE almost killed myself once when I forgot I had ESP off throttling around a curve and that big butt started coming around on me. It comes around fast...and then back in the other direction...and then back in the other direction..and then... Phew. I suppose I'm one of the folks that has gotten used to and dependent on the brains of our beasts to make up for those I lack.....

I hardly take ESP off and never do dnyo mode as I can spin the tires with ESP ON. 700 ft/lb actually overides ESP for a moment in my car. And per my video below, teh beast can keep ESP flashing through 70 MPH.

If I ever did dyno mode I'd probablly immediately wipe out.

Come to think of it though, it might be useful for driving an E55?

Anyone ever try dyno mode at the drag strip with a set of slicks to get a better 60'. Curious if it makes any difference as compared to slicks and running with traction control turned off. Would certainly become more of a driver's car if anything at that point.
