Alternator Questions...

Ok so I have replaced the Accessory Battery under the hood and the voltage regulator on the alternator and now I am getting the red visit workshop light every single time I get in the car. It really sucks in the Florida weather when it shuts downt he AC...then it comes back on...then it shuts it down again. This is telling me I am in need of a replaced alternator.

What do you guys suggest?

- Rebuilding this one if I can find a shop
- Finding a used on from the boards
- buying a new one and from where?

My funds are not very high so if i need to get a new one I will have to add to my already skyrocketing credit card balance. I would love to find a used one from the board but I am not sure if anyone has one lying around.

I am getting very discouraged about this car...only 57k on the odo and so many issues! It runs strong but dang all this little crap is killing me!!!

Can you run a quick test via star das and see if the bcm ( battery control module) is faulty?

Call around and find someone that can bench test your alternator. Most parts stores can test em, but have em check to see if they have a connector that will fit our alternator before you drive there and they don't have the right plug.

There's a way to watch voltage on the dash I believe. Forgot how to get to that menu. Watch what the voltage is doing. Have you had the main battery load tested?

If it is a bad alternator find a local rebuilder and take it in. You'll probably get better replacement parts than the cheapy parts stores and it will be much cheaper most likely. Lots of cities have local places that do it. I know Chicago has a few. hey usually do starters and alternators. Call ahead to be sure they can do it.
