What do you say to Mr. Police Man when he pulls you over?
I have been driving for 30 plus years and have only had three tickets. Two of them have been in my SL however. So what do you tell the police man when he pulls you over? I am always very respectful and nice to the officer. I produce license, registration, and proof of insurance before he even asks and both of my hands are on the steering wheel. The last guy that pulled me over said I was the nicest most polite guy he had ever pulled over just before he gave me a ticket for doing 80 in a 55. I had gone WOT for about 2 seconds from 50, but knew better than to tell the officer that. I am sure because of the number of lies they hear, they are sceptical of the truth. I don't blame them for that.
Almost always, the police man asks me if I know how fast I was going. Of course I do, but what do I say? Well officer, I was doing 150 mph until I saw you and jumped on the brembos, so hopefully you did not shoot me with your laser ray gun until I was doing 70 mph.
So my question, what is the best thing to say when pulled over?

I have been tempted to race the Indiana State Patrol unmarked Mustang GTs. Or, the last time I was pulled over, the unmarked GT jumped on my a$$. I was tempted to see if he could stop as fast as I could, but thought better of it.

Daytime:
Roll down all windows
Car in park and turned off
Lic/insurance/reg in hand with both hand on the wheel
Nighttime:
Roll down all windows
Turn on all interior lights
Car in park and turned off
Lic/insurance/reg in hand with both hand on the wheel
The more safe they feel as they approach the better, esp on cars with tinted windows and even more so in the dark. That is why I always roll my windows down and turn on the interior lights if dark. Turn the car off so they feel less like you will run.
This has helped me numerous times to get out of a ticket or a greatly reduced ticket.

My lawyer says the best thing you can do is like said above, put it in park, shut if off and roll the windows down, then place both hands on the wheel where easily visible . Also, He said if you make lots of eye contact with the officer it helps too. And DO NOT ADMIT GUILT, because as we all know from the TV series 'Cops', "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law"

Good advice, however, I will note that if the officer is still in his vehicle he is probably watching your shoulders to see if you are reaching under your seat or over to another part of the car. As he is approaching he will be doing the same thing, except at this time his hand will almost definitely be on his gun. This is why I do NOT reach for my papers when the cop is approaching me. No WAY am I gonna assume that this cop is not jacked up on HGH/horse steroids with an itchy finger. This is only made worse if you have tints/are pulled over on a dark road.
I keep my hands on the wheel until the officer asks me to produce my papers. When he does, I state where they are before reaching for them.
If it's dark out I turn on ALL interior lights and roll down ALL windows.
Essentially,
1) Signal you are pulling over.
2) Turn on all interior lights as the car comes to a stop.
3) Roll down ALL windows and keep your hands on the wheel.
4) Don't reach for anything until you're asked to produce your papers. Simply state where they are before reaching for them. ("Okay, they're in the glove box.)
If he asks if you know how fast you were going, say YES, and look dead at him and wait for a reply. Don't say "Yeahhh, I was doing 85." And definitely do not say NO. You were going fast enough to get his attention, and now you're gonna tell him you didn't even realize it?
AND THE #1 NO-NO
DO NOT BELITTLE THE MAN, HIS SALARY, AND COMPARE HIM TO A PART OF YOUR CAR.
If you're gonna speed. Have someone else take point. I was doing 100+ omw back from a 500+ mile road trip to Lake Ontario. Only reason I didn't get caught is because I let a pack of three cars (g35, 328, cr-v) take point. The Infiniti ended up getting pulled over alone WAYYYY down the road several miles/minutes after passing the cop. It was actually kind of weird. I was over 10 car lengths behind them when they all slammed their brakes and got out of the first lane. The cop pulled out SOOO slowly, maybe 10-15 lengths behind ME, and took his SWEET time finding the G35. Maybe a good 5 minutes down the road of going 80-90 mph he finally caught up to the G35 and pulled him over. 328 and CR-V were long gone at that point.
Good luck to you all and safe motoring!
