E55 vs E63 vs S55
So ive been a lurker for a long time, and i would just like some opinions on which model i should go for.
I love the E and S class and i'm just wondering which one would be the most fulfilling. for both the 55's i would be looking at getting either a 05/06 and for the E63 probably a 09+
Obviously the 55's would leave me alot more money for potential "mods" im not sure if i want to mod any mercedes/AMG or not because of the resale value. And i know the E is tenths of a second faster the the S but i'm still not 100% sold on the E55
my current car i have about 10K plus in mods but i kind of feel like a AMG is so good it should be left in its stock form and i also want a sleeper look and the S class AMG's are the ultimate sleeper's (i have a wife and kid so the extra space would help alot)
I know about the E's airmatic issues and the S's ABC issues and i would almost positively be buying a aftermarket warranty no matter which car i get. I love the white with Pano option but i dont think the S55 or E55 had that option or otherwise very rare.
All im looking to get really is a 4 door sleeper that can take any stock or semi- modded Challenger/Camaro/Mustang
please be unbiased when suggesting which vehicle i know this is in the E section but i would like to know what you all think
and of course the 2012 E63's are god i know but i'm not millionaire like most of you lol

If you can do the labor your self, I would say don't get warranty for the airmatic alone. The front AMG air struts are designed differently then the other ones (such as the 220 front struts that fail all day long) Worst case scenerio, do the math of buying 4 struts from Arnott ($2,500 ish with lifetime warranty..) vs aftermarket warranty monthly rate x estimated time youd own the car. AND warranty companys just love to try and scheme a mother****er (we only cover green cars, we only cover cars on tuesdays, left air strut? nope only right struts covered, rear strut bad? must have been operator error sorry...) you know how it is

All very good points. I've looked into the CLS's too and like them but it still brings me to this same problem of choosing.
i would like more input on the actual drive/ride of each and options that are great and some that you could live without.
I personally like the look of the W220's and no im not over 50 but sometimes i feel like it. haha
also i have a black car now and i don't think i could ever do black again it's just so hard to keep nice and any little scratch is so noticeable i definitely want white this time around but with black interior as a good contrast and it only seems like the E63's have the color combo's i like

The 63 is a great mix... A Wolf in disguise. Plus a 2009 is newer than the other options.
Look at this color https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...e-e63-amg.html

Funny you say that because everyone I speak to claims they don't like the E-Class and it's ugly w/the dual headlights, while the S is very sexy. I think they are crazy and I really like modded e classes..but to each his own.

I went through the same decision process as you, however I was looking at C63, E55, E63, and S65. You really need to do the homework yourself because no one knows what you like or how you feel about things. Read up on all 3 of the models you are looking at, then go test drive at least one of each. Learn what options are essential to you.
Just because the E55 was my personal choice, doesn't mean it's gonna be your best choice. All 3 of the cars have their goods and bads.

I have a wife & kids, their is plenty of room in the E class...you could fit loads of stuff in the trunk too. S Class = ABC suspension which can unfortunately be a nightmare versus the Airmatic albeit...the ABC does work well when it works. If speed/modding isn't your concern above what the factory provides, I would get an E63 as they handle better, look a bit sharper, have a 7 speed trans and just plain newer. If you want more speed...E55

I'd say try to be VERY realistic about your use of the car. I'm new to AMGs myself, and for a while had talked myself into the E55, liked the idea of the "rougher around the edges" and discounted lesser handling and the 5spd vs. 7spd. transmission. Didn't give 63s the time of day for a while, then saw one come across in my price range, and slowly fell in love.
I like speed as much as the next guy, but given that I use the car 95% daily driver and 5% drag strip, with a minimal modding focus, the 63 is the one for me. I wouldn't say its lacking in speed, it doesnt snap you around like a blower and 2nd gear hitting at the same time, but after pulling a 12.3@114 stock last friday, i'm not discouraged.
and it was solidified for me when I drove my friends E55, and he took my car, 15 mins to a friends house. with the 5 speed, it seems you either downshift to a neck-snapping gear or not quite low enough. the 7 is a little more versatile.
Then, I heat soaked it. I know it's probably an easy upgrade/fix, but if you are leaning more toward a car thats ready out of the box, maybe lean to the 63. I thought the transmission wasnt kicking down when it crept from 80-85 like an old corolla, but it was just too hot.
I have alot of respect for both machines, especially what the 55 can do when modded, just my experience as a guy that was initially attracted to the brute power of the 55 and potential for upgrades, but I really don't use the car that way, and once I became realistic mith myself anbout it, the 63 was the choice for me. With a tune and some ability it's easily high 11s for an otherwise stock vehicle with awesome manners on a day-to-day basis.

I know i need to test drive some already but there's none even in my state that i know of!
is the updated COMAND system in the 09+ really worth it or are the 07/08 63's system good enough that you really don't notice a difference?
and how many of you out there have taken the camaro/challenger/mustangs in a race stock or do you usually get beat?
the only mod i would consider as of now is a ECU tune

I own both an S55 and an E55. The S has all the mods on it because it is my car, while the E is the wifes. The S is so much more refined then the E, while straight brute force is on the E's side. With the mods on my S it is no slug and is a beast of a car, while still feeling luxurious. The ABC suspension is amazing, and will last a long time if you take the advice from this forum and not the MB service intervals. Just really depends on what your looking for, in the S, I could easily fit 4 6' foot people in the car, while that would be a difficult feat in the E.

We had basically the same reaction time, same 60', I was slightly ahead most of the way (a shade ahead at 1000ft. according to the slip), then I remember hearing a world of engine noise and he flew by my trapping 120 to my 112.5, beat me by less than a tenth. I didn't get a chance to talk to him, but my money is on the NOS button. So I think stock I had him, on spray, he pulled me once he hit the button.

You can also consider CLS55 AMG. 4 doors for family and 55k engine for the power. Its more luxury than E class, not sure compare to S.

07 E63. 07 STi limited #606/800
I would go e55 if you like modifying your vehicle.
E63 if you like the vehicle to look a lot better, just updated, and has a few more perks, then go with the e63. I love my 07 and am having a hard time finding another vehicle to replace it, cts-v doesn't even compare. I would rather get an E55 and do the 63 front end and rear swap before I would get a cts-v.
S class is something if your over 35 or so and have a decent income and don't really want to mod the car. That thing is huge!

Lol no. I know everyone here loves the M113 but an engine alone does not a car make. The E63 has better handling, brakes, tranny, steering wheel , looks. Only two of those items can be retro'd. Not to mention the 156 is an insane motor and can make great power.
