1. Cost: It would add additional machining to the crank during production and time.
2. Necessity: The stock pulley seems to work just fine, now when you add additional stress, that is NOT AMG's fault or concern.

Exactly. The production motor/crankshaft work fine for stock. I've talked to a company about having it splined but its not cheap plus the pulley would have to be splined exactly to match it. Not easy or cheap to do.

I'd like to get a Kleemann 168, but the cost is a bit much. ASP weld 168 might be the best since I still want a street car with light mods. Nothing real heavy.
All this talk about blown engines and bad pulleys is too much at this point.

I think it's only the RTR's and faulty installs that are failing. I don't think all the other pulleys, if installed correctly, have been failing

There have been pulley failures from other companies and due to the stresses it puts on the crank, but nothing has ruined more motors in my history on this forum (5 years now?) than this RTR pulley.

Nearly all of them at one point or another, with the oem style pulleys ( like the older ASP's ) being the more reliable ones. But I agree with Cylinder head, this RTR pulley really has made a name for it's self by destroying pretty much every engine it encounters....yikes!!

Besides the RTR, in what way are all the other pulleys failing when they are installed correctly? Should I be thinking about putting my stock pulley back on?

Any time you mod a car you're taking a level of risk. When you put an aftermarket part on the end of your crankshaft, you're gambling with the backbone of your motor.

Do yourself a favor and follow your own words! Nothing like peace of mind. My Kleemann setup was awsome.

Guess I'll have to see if I can work out a deal with Kleemann. :p Aren't their pullies in excess of $2K? If I do go down that route, I'll probably do Kleemann with an OE Tune. I remember the C230 pulley kits way back when were pretty reasonable. Less than a thousand.

Wait for a used one that comes up once in awhile. I found a renntech 168mm and paid $500 after selling my OEM pulley later to the seller. I almost decided to go with 180 ASP/EC but figured cant go wrong with Renntech or Kleemann.

Never heard of PTE. Do they have a good track record and/or a website?

Does this RTR pulley issue only apply to the crank pulleys or also the S/C pulley that was recently being sold?

S/C pulleys should be immune from failure in the manner like these crank pulleys have failed. Also, they should wear as OEM pulleys do.
Even if the S/C pulleys go bad its unlikely to cause major engine damage like a crank pulley.
If you thinking about changing the pulley on your car you better off - all round - changing the S/C pulley and leaving the OEM crank pulley in its place.

Yes, my plan is to replace the S/C pulley and replace the idler and tensioner pulleys with the ASP aluminum pieces and leave the stock crank pulley alone. Thanks for the insight.

I thought the S/C pulleys were causing problems too. Weren't they sticking to the clutch plate?

I'm willing to bet there are more failures attributed to this pulley that have yet been posted-likely from fanboys. Just seems to be the norm vs.the exception. Very sorry OP.
