For the past 6 months my remote is not operational but does turn on the car when inserted in the ignition switch. Does this mean that the internals are ok and I just need a new case, or do I have to drop $500 at the dealer for a new remote? Thanks!

I would start by replacing the battery. That will be the cheapest solution. I believe you can actually get them at Walmart.

Replaced the battery, still no good.

Get the dealership to test both of your keys. If they're both good, then chances are it's the sending module.

Unfortunately I'm down to this one remote, the other fully operational one has been lost. I guess my question is this: if I can turn the car on does that mean the electronics inside are still working? A new remote case with the battery holder is $60-80 on eBay, just trying to minimize chance I buy this and still have a useless remote. Thanks.

More than likely, the key just needs to be reprogrammed in STAR...insist that they do NOT sell you a new key...don't ask me how I know.
