too old to mod?
Hey all, just hit 90k miles on my e55. Since I got her, I put on about 60k miles in the last 3 years and it has seen its fair share of problems ( water pump, failed pass shock/bag, etc....and now the motor mounts are cooked ) and I was wondering if its too late to start modding the car.
Would you consider 90k miles on the car too late to start modding the car ( headers, pulley/tune, IC pump is all I am really looking for ) ? My CL55 only lasted until 105k miles before it decided to go to hell on me.
So far all of the members with higher mileage, please let me know what you think...
Thanks!!!!

awesome question, I wonder the same myself, having almost 65k on my E63, I didn't know if the car was as good as it was when new, and if modding would have diminishing returns as the miles increase, only looking at tune and possibly filters on the intake side and minor upgrades on the exhaust side

I'm sure you can still mod it, but how reliable it's going to be with all those miles is something your going to have to find out. It's a risk to modify the engine when the car is brand new, let alone when your nearing 100,000 miles. It'll either be the best thing you did to your car, or it can end up being the worst.

It's never too late to mod. My short block looked like new with 121k on it and over 500hp for the last 15k and nitrous also. Even the "junk" pistons everyone talks about were in perfect shape.

I agree, do a compression test first.
Then if you just went and did headers and a tune your pretty much just letting the motor "breath", so you'll improve preformance and gas milage without really putting any load on the internals of the motor.

Things like headers and cooling mods will help the longevity by reducing heat. Also with headers comes a drop in boost so you can justify a small pulley to get it back to "stock" levels. Just make sure your maintenance is up to date and the motor is healthy and go for it!

You could always go conservative too. Kleeman headers pulley and stock tune would get you close to 600hp and is super safe. Pulley still uses stock belt. K2 cars can run mid 11s in a good da! First mod I would do is headers. 50hp with long tubers right off the bat.
+1 on compression test too.

+1 that's all I need. I did my Klemann header and tune about 9 months ago. Car sound much better. I did the K&N filter..... didn't even notice any different 1hp gain ahhahaha

Lot of people mod these engines with over 120K on them.

I bought the car with 23k on it, started modding cosmetically right away, didnt mod the motor until 71k. Car sits at 74k, that has been the best 3k miles i've ever put on any car yet.
