W210 vs. M5
I'm down to decision time. I'm looking at an 01 M5 w/ 22000mi for $53k or an 02 E55 w/ 19,000mi for $50K-ish.
If anyone has owned both or experience with both, please offer some comments.
Thanks!!

They're two completely different cars and both are great choices. I prefer the M5 for the six-speed and it's balance (I also LOVE the engine note). The E55 IMO has a more tractable engine that has more grunt down low but it doesn't have quite the reflexes the M5 does. Were it my choice, I'd go with the M5.

CLK55, Mini S
If you can find a 2002 E55 for "50ish" with 19k miles, buy it. The M5 will give you more problems in the long run and its resale is about to take a big hit when the new model comes out. The W210 has taken the hit and should hold up much better.
The M5 would be more fun to toss around, but if you have any kind of traffic to deal with on a regular basis, do you want to be pumping the clutch all the time, holding that high-revving beast back, burning up the engine, tranny and clutch only to have to pay top dollar to have it replaced. with growing costs as it becomes more and more obsolete in the near future...
IMHO.

Price sounds a little too HIGH on the E55.
There's a 2002 E55 with 14000 miles on EBay right now (3 HOURS left in bidding) at $47,600
While admittedly only a superficial resource, there is a pair of 2002 E55's listed on autotrader for:
$49995---1095 miles
$49900---31222 miles
