Maybe it's the pipe that is in front of the secondaries which connects the left side with the right side which makes the sound more quiet.
I like it how it sounds with this setup but i just want to do something to save the headers.

Sorry just saw u got VRP shorties. Hmmm... well I dont think you going to get much out of those. (Been there).
You far better off going Kleemann or similar mid length header and getting rid of the primary cat at that time. Getting rid of the primary cat with the VRP "HEM" I think is a waste. The primary cat removal does not change sound much at all to me, the secondary makes a big diff and then primary and secondary ramp it up further.
So if I were you, go kleemann chop primaries see whats its like without both and if its too much put secondaries back.

I have VRP shorties - I did notice more sound after deleting the primaries... It is not crazy loud but its more grunt and sound. I would compare it to deleting your 2nds and resonator.... the difference you gained from that mod will yield similar gains from taking your prims out.
This is what i did -- Orginally I took out the 2nds & resonator +X-pipe. Lets say that is +2 in sound and a zero for performance gains. Recently, I just took out the primaries and lets say that was an additional +2 for sound and +2 for performance gains.
