Do I have an issue?

Old member that just had to re-sign-up due to inactivity so I am not a newbee, but......need advise.

Had an 03 E55, fastest car to "that point" I had ever owned. The thing was a TQ beast, it would spin the tires at highway speeds, anyway, ecomomy tanked, $800 month payment had to go away.

Fast forward 5 years.....

Just purchase an 06 E55, as I missed my old E something bad. But here lies the problem. This car feels like a dog compared to my memory of my old E55 and the 08 Vette I now own. It has a big lag with the supercharger and forget about tire spinning even with TC off and the wheels kocked to turn into a side road. Once rolling it goes pretty well. I know the supercharger is spooiling up, as I already heat soaked the charger on the highway trying to get it to go faster than it was willing to go. The 08 Vette is completely stock and it would eat this car bad from a dig and would walk away at speed too.

The car is still under warranty for another 300 miles so I would like to get whatever needs to be addressed now while not on my dime.

Suggestions.... what might me the issue(s). Thanx for the suggestions in advance.

Jim

+1 intercooler pump is probably shot. Very common and you will notice a HUGE drop in performance from it.

Superchargers are instant power, should be milliseconds to be near full boost. I would go with the intercooler pump on this. Might want to try the sneaky ecu reset (search) and wait until its cool out to do a couple of pulls. You should see a huge difference right away.

I don't know of any "stock" E55 that can spin the tires at highway speeds...

Sounds like your original E55 must have been heavily modded (whether you realized it or not)

The IC Pump is a common failure, but if it's truly bad the car will feel as slow as a 4-cylinder Jetta..... It's not subtle.

+1 on IC pump, although when mine went out, I could still spin the tires from a stop. Also, about 3 years ago our driver side valve cover gasket went out, and when we got it replaced it was a world of difference. went from E550 to and E55 again. Hope this helps

Yes, that is exactly how it feels, e550 power. Good call. I drove a e550 4 matic a few weeks back (before i bought the 55) and it does feel about the same.

Even stock, the E55 should break the tires very, very easily. The IC pump is very common, but should not affect initial power.

If there was someone in your area you could do some quick comparisons between two E55's??, it seems like something else may need to be looked at.

To be 100% honest, I have no clue what so ever. But something they did made a world of difference. Maybe ECU reset

If anyone is local...NH/RI/MA/CT, I would be happy to come meet them.... just to have a current owner drive my car to see what might be the issue. If I bring it back to the dealer they will say everything is normal. I wonder what the problem is?

Here's a pic of the car in case anyone might know it. The title says Sayville NY.

I am going to say check the intercooler pump as well. I remember when mine would cut out on the stock pump that was going bad, and the car was extremely slow. Good luck.

I have no doubt there may be a bad IC pump, but even when mine was bad on hot and humid day I still almost had no problem roasting tires... Maybe I just have crappy tires? Dunlop Direzza DZ101s.

Get yourself a new Bosch "010" IC pump and a another set of those Dunlops.

You should be re-living the good 'ol days into time.

I would get or borrow a data logger and check your IAT`s, before just replacing parts. It is hot in mostplaces, so most cars can feel slow quick. You may also want to check timing at WOT and get an idea if your car has ever been tuned. Not to many virgin E55`s running around for 7-10 years..

I drive a stone stock 06 as well and I'm leaning to an intermittent problem with the pump. It happened to mine. I also just had the ECU replaced by the dealer under warranty, (car wouldn't start) and there's a noticable increase in performance and overall driveability. I suspect the ECU was going away a little at a time before it failed completely and the performance decrease wasn't apparent. Anyway, it runs better than ever now.
