Finally can smell rubber on my e63

So I just got a 08 e63 with 35k miles. Took it to the dealer to have them run through everything and make sure all is well. 1500 later I was very pleased with the e63 but kinda expected more. So I found this forum and have spent hours scanning these great forums.

I decided to do the afe high flow air filter and char del today. Even after 1500 spent At the dealer to make he car "right" the stock air filters were totally clogged with dirt sand and small leaves.

I pulled the charcoal and replaced the clogged stock air filters with the afe high perf and all I can say is WOW and WTF. I am finally experiencing what others are.... The sweet smell of burnt rubber.

Cant believe the damn dealer did not check the simple yet vital air filters.

Couple of questions... Any suggestion for a independent Benz mech near Los Angeles? I saw someone mentioned Santa Barbara but was looking for someone more local to Pasadena.

Thanks to members o this forum i am also looking for the nearby track to run some 1/4's?

Careful man you may experience a CEL with those filters. Several other forum members have.

bill

Something like...

their noncomplete check all $200
new front tires + alignment $600 (for sure needed)
brake fluid flush $200
tranny fluid flush and new filter $500

Not just going to call but think I'll go over there and complain. Maybe a ripoff but new to me car and wanted to make sure it was safe before stomping on the gas. Still looking for a local benz shop.

Ya... I saw some people got the CEL, drove about 40 miles after the swap, no CEL. Tomorrow I am going to stretch the legs out about 200 miles and see what happens.

Thanks... well i put in the aFe high flow filters and did the carbon del at the same time. The machine really moved and felt great until about 50 miles when the CEL cam on. Put back the carbon and about 125 miles later the CEL went out. Still seems to be great... I can;t feel a difference with or without the carbon filter but the high flow filter seemed to help a lot. :-) Glad to be in this machine.

I am running AFEs in both my AMGs, for about a year. Not one problem.

Congrats on the car, I had something similiar happen to me with my used 93 Firebird Forumula.

Car felt slow, and I my dad agreed it seem meh. Decided to check the air filter first, a mouse decided to make a nest of it. Cleared that garbage out, new k&n went in, and at the first stop sign, a nice 40 foot patch of rubber.

Cayenne GTS, Cayenne Turbo
Nachtsturm and natrigon, are you using the AFE Pro Dry S or AFE Pro 5R?

I prefer AFE than K&N but also prefer BMC than either of those two.

My father in law just had his control arm replaced at the dealer, they installed the bushing upside down. I have no faith in dealer work parts jockeys!
