No x pipe at all!?!
Hi guys! Im jamie, I've just bought a 2004 e55 amg, very pleased with the car however a bit unsure about the exhausts... I got it on the ramp the other day and it's had the secondary cats and resonator removed with no x pipe what's so ever... It's seems to run great idle perfect with no other obvious problems!? I have read various gains to be bad from x pipes but nothing abut not having them?! I plan to get 180mm pulley and tune in the near future too..
Any feedback would be much appreciated!

In stock configuration, there is a cross over just before secondary cats. Also, the resonator is open between banks to dampen pulse modulation right before the mufflers.

So, in stock form, there is no x-pipe. More of an H if you will.
X-Pipes are valuable to help scavenge exhaust gases. If you are bone stock, it is not the first upgrade I would worry about:
Pulley / Heat Exchanger
Headers / Exhaust (May come with the x-pipe and mid section)
Throttle Body
Fuel Rail

Super Member
x pipe is there to reduce the drone, if you have no drone i doubt your loosing much power, the 55`s do like to have a little back pressure.
