E55 or higher mileage E63
Gents,
First time poster, long time lurker. Have been struggling to find a low mileage E55 05-06 in the US. In So Cal, the selection is weak, only a couple available, which are either high mileage, or black, or both.
Given my frustration, was thinking of looking into a E63 with a bit more mileage on it. By this, I mean a 07, around 60K miles, wouldn't want anything higher than that.
What do you guys think? I'd rather wait it out for a 40-50K E55 and save $10k, but it's like finding a needle.

Wisest thing would be to wait for your ideal car. I bought my car from a stealer in Marin County and I lived in NJ at the time.

Found this under 22K mile E55 for under 30K, but upon checking the records, had 24 service records, with only 1 owner.
Seems crazy, so upon asking, he told me the fuel system can't handle the Las Vegas heat and "seals popped" and he replaced it. And of course, he found that out when the car smelled like gas inside after filling it up. I'm really worried about that fuel/tank issue, so might have to move on

You will have more problems with a 07 e63 than a higher mileage e55. You never want a first year anything. Just search e63 head bolts, camshafts, 722.9 valve body's etc. the problems a 63 engine will have will be very costly FYI. Also a car with a lot of service records is actually a good thing. It means the customer was very picky about his car and wanted every thing perfect

Yeah, tell me about it... Mine got to the point where the car left my stranded because the fuel leak shorted the harness going into the pump. It couldn't have hit me at a better time... within the first month of ownership.

Had the burnt harness a few months ago. Nowdays, I rarely drive the car.

I will only buy my MB from CarMax now so I can get their extended warranties. Next time I'll go 6 years 125K miles. I plan on getting an S65 or CL65 from CarMax next just so I can get the warranty. It cannot be beat anywhere, and CNA is only offered through dealers.
It's one of these, "Secret sauces" to buying an AMG. CarMax + CNA Warranty FTW!

Alextaylor tell me more about carmax and their cna warranty. Newly amg they only charged you 2200 for a 6 yr warranty? Do the delears always respect carmax warranties? I have heard horror stories about other warranty companies that refuse to honor certain repairs.
I was just about to buy a 2007 E63 for $30K w/ 77K miles through a Benz stealership but backed out because it $555 a month @ 6.5 interest rate w/ $4000 down. I thought the interest rate was too high for my credit score over 760 and then I would have had to add another $750 for shipping probably making it close to $600 monthly. I wouldnt want a car w/ such high mileage and if I did get a car w/ this type of mileage warranty it a must.

And the warranty is for up to 6yrs, or up to 125,000 miles (car came with 61,000), whichever comes first, so essentially I got a 6yr/64k warranty on my '07. and its an EXCLUSIVE warranty, so instead of a long list of things covered where plenty could be left out, its a short list (scheduled maintenance, consumables (brakes, wipers, belts, tires, etc.)) or what isn't covered, and everything else IS.

So, I will add to this, since in the E55/63 search I am in the same boat as you, would say a 2008 or 2009 E63 have less of a chance of the valve thing mentioned in post #8 in this thread, or is it a possibility in all of the E63's?

Thanks for the response newlyAMG. How long ago did you buy you car? Have you ever heard of them not covering any repairs as the prices for parts and labor can add up on these cars? I guess carmax and their warranty is the way to go for these type of cars. $2300 is very cheap for a 6 year 125K warranty. The prices of montly payments and regular maintenence is expenisve enough. Couldn't imagine paying for an unexpected major repair. @AlexTaylor how do you get away w/ not having ur warranty voided w/ aftermarket parts?
