cornfed gtr and m3
As many iterations as my car went through, it felt like we were changing plugs weekly. But yes, definitely makes a difference.

sorry, maybe i'm not understanding why changing the gap is that important.
You have a wider gap, you have a longer ark. The dynamics of the spark directly coralate to the timing, compression, fuel mix. And so on. The car will run at .050. It just won't run optimally. As plugs wear, the electrode wears down or burns, widening the ark, decreasing the sparks intensity and it will not allow the motor to run optimally. Will it run, yep, it will. Thre is a reason thier is a recommended plug gap. Don't you think the men who designed these power plants know what they are doing. I guarantee, when j dejusseppi assembled my motor, he gapped the plugs. If he built the motor and set them to that spec, who am I to argue. Gap them to .060. I guarente it will run. What's few more pound feet of torque. They already have plenty.

Boosted applications like smaller gaps as its harder to fire that arc across the added air and fuel being compressed in the chamber. I'd regap to spec. .032 and. 050 is a very notable difference. Too big of a gap and you can "blow the spark out" with the boost.

Same as with nitrous the gap shrinks with more power and its pretty important to adjust it or bad things can happen. I think boosted motors would be more forgiving then a big nitrous motor though. Kinda new to boosted motors but basic principles apply here.

....being modded the best advice would be to have my tech regap them the next time car needs service?

bigger gap = better efficiency (more spark available to ignite)
smaller gap = more power

relatively speaking...

Merc recommends .8mm, or .031in. Torque them down between 18.5-22 ft lbs.

As always...check for yourself!!

NEW plugs are .030" out of the box...

and plugs that came out were .032-.033" gapped

That would have saved me a lot o work. All 16 of mine were at 050 and yes, it was very visable without a feeler gauge. If you put them in at 050. It will effect your car. That's all. And no, a wider gap does NOT make the car or plug more efficient. Properly igniting the fuel in the correct timing will give best efficiency. End result is better mileage and more power.

The images speaks for themselves...clearly .030 out the boxes all 16 of them...

I told DynoComp in Scottsdale who installed these to gap them at .032". They did and they work great! (I put a yellow sticky note on each box saying, Gap to .032"), just to make sure. Wasn't sure what they came at so I just had them do it to be sure.

No regrets here!

Alex

Pulling 1 plug to check would take 2 minutes.

That is great and saved allot of time. It is a pain to gap 16 plugs. I am not insisting that all come at 050. I am only stating they should be at or close to the recommended gap for optimal performance. We are in a rare fraternity with these beasts. My objective is just to forward any helpful info I can. If your car is pulling strong with its current set up and some people get plugs already correctly gapped,, then that is a good as it gets.

My alldata is showing gap should be around .031 gap so .030 to .035 im sure is just fine. And it should be torqued at 18.439 foot lbs. These alldata specs are pretty accuarate and usually dead on with what the dealer recommands.
