cool temps split intercooler info

46-47deg this am crusing first start up was 172deg on the coolant 53deg-56 on the air charge temps. then a blast from 0-110mph 56-96deg and then back down to the 60's in no time at all.

Very interesting data. Your IATs seem to be super low, yet your reservoir is very small (maybe 1 quart ??) - only running 50* above ambient after a 110mph pull.

IIRC, you are running the pump all the time, but which heat exchanger are you running and do you have any idea how you are staying so cool (besides the cool ambient) ? How large of a pulley are you running?

"46-47deg this am" That has a lot to do with his IAT being low to begin with.

Guys, I read the post....It is the difference between ambient and max IAT that I am talking about....If you look, he is able to get back ~13 degrees above ambient very quickly after a hard run....I was skeptical that such a small reservoir would help that much, but it definitely does...

What is also important to understand is what size pulley he is using, as the larger the pulley the greater the heat soak.

I very much doubt he has a 180 pulley
Still that ambient temp hitting his HE will cool it down pretty quickly...

Car was not yet warmed up, even on a cold ay coolant temp will be higher than 172. Drive it around for awhile, get all of the components nice and toasty, then do the runs. Data Log needs to be posted vs. anything else.

A smaller reservoir will always recover more quickly as there is less water volume to cool back down.

Problem is it will reach a higher max on longer runs and plateau at a higher level too (perhaps too high and promoting S/C shut down or robbing big time on timing). I suppose one could work out the optimal reservoir size for a particular run but at the end of the day the intercooler remains the main restriction.

stock pulley here and yes having the tank circulate helps big time.

If you had a 172 or bigger your iats would have been much higher, those numbers are good for stock pulley

well ty i already know that since i data logged a car last week with that pulley and a big heat exchanger it could barely get tuned due to the air charge and a quick stab on the street it went to 146deg in 3rd gear with a quick stab of the gas. temps were 82 that day. 99 lightning has been racing supercharged cars and trucks since 03 so i know all about it.

That's very good! I wish we had temps like that down here.
