keep in mind the S-Class has been around longer than the new 7, so you might take that into consideration.

Sorry didn't mean to cause offence. I have taken part in this and other M5 threads in this forum. It's just that we are rehashing what has already been said, so I was saying "enough already" This should be taken to OT or if you really want to talk about the E60 M5 go here

By the way I'm not a Fosters man, single malt scotch for me.

 

I don't know if the 7-Series out sells the S-Class. It may because it is cheaper. But overall sales of BMW's are higher than Mecedes and just think - BMW has less of a line up and models than Mercedes offers. BMW also offers a low number of engine models compared to MBZ and BMW using no turbos or superchargers.

BMW has no rival for the CL coupe nor the G-Class.

BMW has no M cars in the 2003 lineup for:

X5
7-Series
Z4
3-Series Sedan

So the ML55, G55, S55, CL55, CLK55 & SLK32 have no BMW competition.

The SL55 rival - the Z8 has been discontinued.

No AWD versions in 5-Series or 7-Series.

BMW has no planned supercar for the Silver Arrow SLR.

If BMW had a varied lineup like MBZ does right now their sales would be tremendous. Sad but true.

 

I would take it anyday.

 

The majority of MB's line up are high end cars or very exclusive super cars. Relative to the general car market, high-end luxury cars (S, CL, SL, G-class, AMGs, 7 series, Ms) are a small niche, and sell in relatively low numbers. BMW's bread and butter is its 3-series, and the 3-series is positioned well within the bounds of the general car market. It's a great car, and BMW sells a ton of 'em. The 5-series is its second most important car. If the new styling turns many current owners off (I'm one of them, I own an e39 but hate the e60's looks), BMW's gonna start hurting.

BTW, the ML55's rival was the X5 4.6si. Even though the 4.6si isn't an M-car, it's an M-like car and out performs the ML55. I believe MBUSA has dropped the ML55, so it's now the X5 4.6si that does not have a competitor from MB.
