2004 e55 ignition issue
My dealer says our E-55 needs a new ignition at $ 1100. I bought the car new, jsut now has 70K miles, always serviced(was serviced two weeks ago no error codes) prior to that I let it sit for 6-8 weeks everything worked when I parked it. I put the key in then turned...nothing(would not turn over..nothing). I then took the key in and out 2-3 times, it started as if nothing was the matter(no error codes) I drove it a couple hundred miles. It still did the same thing infrequently. Sometimes it would start first turn even 10 times in a row then would do the same thing again. Took it back to my dealer, $ 1100 for new ignition. They also said main battery low as well from 2 weeks ago when it was in and needed 300. Car never displayed any warning or trouble lights on dash even when I took it in. At the same time I now find its costing me $ 650 for a heater issue where the aircond works but heater would not blow hot air, they said a bypass needed replaced? At 70K miles it seems pretty early to have to replace an ignition. Between the ignition, heater issue and battery its over $ 2K. I have owned 50 cars, suv's and trucks never had an ignition replaced. Anyone else have this issue?

I think the code was 9030? I just received a call from the dealer they think it now may be the starter (yes they tested it, showed Ok). It appearently made a click when they turned the key this time, possibly false code? Two weeks ago they could not replicate the not starting, fired right up, no error codes. Hopefully its a starter verse replacing an $1,100-1,200 ignition.

Find a good independent mechanic. You'd have saved a TON on the heater repair (likely a common valve that went bad that's a bit of a pain to get to) and the battery who knows what happened there. An independent will save you a TON of money on repairs.

Intermittent problems are tough. Could be a safety switch or a relay. As HAL said: I think you should wait for it to fail.

The engine will not crank(turn over) or anything(when it is messing up) so I take out the key and place it back in a couple of times and starts up absolutely 0 hesitation. It may start 10 times no issue then here it goes again. They replicated it at the ddealership a few times. Just a weird issue I guess. I dont think its the crank position sensor as it does not turn over at all or it starts up perfect. I will keep everyone posted as what it turns out to be.
